Please Believe Me
Jack Harris & His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Someone lights up my heart like the sun,
And that someone is you, please believe me!
You're my starlight when daytime is done
My darling, please darling, believe me!

You're the smile on my lips when I wake,
You're a faith that I'll never forsake!
No one loves with a love that I bring you
Please believe me, believe me please do!

You're the smile on my lips when I wake,
You're a faith that I'll never forsake!
No one loves with a love that I bring you

Please believe me, believe me please do!

Music by Bob Merrill,
With lyrics by Bee Walker, 1949

A lovely orchestration, and not everyone could pull off those lyrics so convincingly as Sam!

@Swing Band Heaven Oh, I agree -- I didn't say "anyone," just that not everyone could do this one justice. Al is one of my favorite vocalists.

Thanks Trombonology Erstwhile, this song brought a tear to my eye, especially considering the time it was recorded and the gathering clouds. Would the little lady’s dreams come true?

oh I don't know. Al Bowlly gave it a good shot I think https://app.box.com/file/520582544

Delicious! Ive only ever heard the Al Bowlly /Lew Stone version before, but Sam Browne makes a really decent fist of what could easily have been rather cloying lyrics. And, I have to say, I do prefer this delightful arrangement to Lew Stone's!
