Never Again
Jack Pleis and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll never smile again
Until I smile at you
I'll never laugh again
What good would it do
For tears would fill my eyes
My heart would realize
That our romance is true
I'll never love again
I'm so in love with you
I'll never thrill again
To somebody new
Within my heart
I know I will never start
To smile again
Until I smile at you

Within my heart
I know I will never start

To smile again
Until I smile at you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Never Again" by Jack Pleis and His Orchestra express the depth of the singer's feelings for their love interest. The opening line, "I'll never smile again, until I smile at you," conveys the idea that the singer's happiness and ability to find joy in life is solely dependent on the presence and reciprocation of love from their beloved.

The following lines continue this sentiment, stating "I'll never laugh again, what good would it do," emphasizing that without the love and companionship of their beloved, laughter and happiness have lost their significance. Tears would fill their eyes, and their heart would realize that the romance they share is genuine and important to their well-being.

The lyrics further express that the singer will never be able to love again, as their heart is fully consumed by the love they have for their current partner. They proclaim, "I'll never thrill again to somebody new." This reveals that the love they have experienced is unique and irreplaceable, making it impossible for them to imagine starting anew with another person.

The song ends with the repetition of the phrase, "Within my heart, I know I will never start to smile again until I smile at you." This repetition reinforces the singer's dependence on their love interest for happiness and genuine joy.

Overall, "Never Again" beautifully captures the intensity of love and how it can permeate every aspect of one's life, leaving them unable to find happiness or love elsewhere.

Jack please was a brilliant composer and an incredible piano player and the father of my best friend damon pleis. I got to hear him play live fairly often and the music he wrote for television was incredible especially for the show The wild wild West. I think it's some of the best incidental music for television ever written. Also he was a very very nice person.

I'm very glad that someone still remembers him. I've been thinking that I'm probably the closest thing he has to a fan in 2022.
