Josephine
Jack Schneider Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Looking like they carved you out of marble Staring off toward some distant shore Graceful as a prima ballerina Floating on a boat without an oar
My Josephine, Josephine Hair of gold, eyes of green My Josephine
Are you walking with another stranger? Do you like when he don't know your name? Nothing's easy when your heart is broken It makes it hard to want to try again
My Josephine, Josephine Hair of gold, eyes of green My Josephine
Holding on to nothing but your dreams, babe Wanting nothing anyone can hold
Do you ever wonder what you're missing? Do you ever feel you're getting old?
My Josephine, Josephine Hair of gold, eyes of green My Josephine, Josephine Hair of gold, eyes of green My Josephine

Overall Meaning

In Jack Schneider's song "Josephine," he describes a woman who appears effortlessly graceful and beautiful like she was "carved out of marble." He refers to her as "my Josephine" and describes her golden hair and green eyes, giving the impression that he has a deep admiration for her. However, he also hints at a certain distance between them as he wonders if she is "walking with another stranger" and if she ever feels lonely or old. This distance may be due to a past heartbreak alluded to in the lines "nothing's easy when your heart is broken" and "holding onto nothing but your dreams."

Overall, the song seems to capture the conflicting emotions of admiration and uncertainty that often come with unrequited love. The singer admires Josephine's beauty and grace but is also aware that he may not be able to fully understand her experiences and emotions. The sense of distance and longing in the lyrics adds a melancholic tone to the song that may resonate with anyone who has experienced this type of unrequited love.

Really like the song and the video. Only wish the camera didn't shake so much. Tripod for still and some stabilizer for moving are best for keeping attention inside the story, otherwise, camera becomes too noticeable.
