Gleason could not read or write music in a conventional sense; he was said to have conceived melodies in his head and described them vocally to staff help. He did likewise with the well-remembered themes of both The Jackie Gleason Show ("Melancholy Serenade") and The Honeymooners ("You're My Greatest Love"). There has been some controversy over the years as to how much credit Gleason should have received for the finished products; it has been written that beyond the possible conceptualizing of many of the songs, Gleason had no direct involvement such as conducting in the making of these recordings. However, his main musical companion, cornetist and trumpeter Bobby Hackett once said: "Jackie knows a lot more about music than people give him credit for. I have seen him conduct a sixty-piece orchestra and detect one discordant note in the brass section. He would immediately stop the music and locate the wrong note. It always amazed the professional musicians how a guy who technically did not know one note from another could do that. And he was never wrong."

I'm Thru With Love
Jackie Gleason Lyrics

I'll never fall again
Said "Adieu" to love
Don't ever call again
For I must have you
Or no one
And so I'm through with love
I'll keep my feelings there
I have stocked my heart
With icy frigid air
And I need to care for no one
And so I'm through with love
Why did you leave me
To think that you could cared?
You didn't need me
For you have your share
Of slaves around you
To hound you and swear
With deep emotion
Devotion to you
Goodbye to spring
And all it meant to me
It can never bring
The things that used to be
For I must have you or no one
And so I'm through with love
Why did you leave me
To think that you could cared?
You didn't need me
For you have your share
Of slaves around you
To hound you and swear
With deep emotion
Devotion to you
Goodbye to spring
And all it meant to me
It can never bring
The things that used to be
For I'm through with love, I'm through with love
But every time I fall in love
Something always happen to me
That's why I'm through with love
The song "I'm Through With Love" by Jackie Gleason & His Orchestra is a melancholic theme about the end of a loving relationship. The song begins with the singer's declaration of being done with love and not wanting to fall in love again, as they are hurting from their recent separation. The lyrics "Said 'Adieu' to love, Don't ever call again" signify the sorrowful and hurtful feelings that a break-up leaves behind.
The singer then talks about how they have locked away their emotions and have put up a cold front towards everyone. They have stocked their hearts with icy frigid air to protect themselves from future heartbreak. The lyrics "And I need to care for no one" signify that the singer does not want to be hurt again and has chosen to isolate themselves from everyone.
The song's chorus repeats that the singer cannot love anyone other than their former lover, so they are through with love. The song also touches upon the value of devotion and the emotional plight when a loved one is lost. This is well-represented in the lyrics "With deep emotion, Devotion to you", "Goodbye to spring, And all it meant to me, it can never bring, The things that used to be", and "But every time I fall in love, Something always happen to me, That's why I'm through with love".

Jackie Gleason's String Orchestra does the best instrumental version of this song; Ella Fitzgerald does the best vocal version. No contest.
