The band made their debut under Acid Jazz Records but subsequently found mainstream success under Sony. While under this label, three of their albums have charted at number one in the UK, including Emergency on Planet Earth (1993), Synkronized (1999) and A Funk Odyssey (2001). The band's 1998 single, "Deeper Underground", was also number one in their native country.
As of 2017, Jamiroquai had sold more than 26 million albums worldwide. Their third album, Travelling Without Moving (1996), received a Guinness World Record as the best-selling funk album in history. The music video for its lead single, "Virtual Insanity", also contributed to the band's success. The song was named Video of the Year at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards and earned the band a Grammy Award in 1998.

Electric Mistress
Jamiroquai Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Why do I feel this way
When we're dancing in a trance
Your love is at all I take
Trying to get through to you
Baby you're a red alert
I want you more and more
I want you so bad it hurts
[Chorus]
You seem so disconnected
But when I turn you on you're so infective
Pretty Pollys my electric mistress (She's my baby)
And she's making like a maniac (She's my little maniac)
Baby I can't pretend
Baby I can't pretend
There's a maniac and it's you
Your a slave to every group
there's nothing in your eyes
Doing what I feel the same
What am I gonna do
You keep me under strain
[Chorus]
Why do I feel this way
Why do I feel this way
Why do I feel this way
Why do I feel this way
When we're dancing in a trance
Your love is all I take
The lyrics of "Electric Mistress" by Jamiroquai speak of a complicated relationship where the singer is dealing with a love interest who seems to be disconnected and distant. He describes her as a "maniac" and a "slave to every group," which may imply she is easily influenced by others and struggles to stay true to herself. The singer is trying to get through to her and understand why she feels the way she does, but he is constantly under strain.
The chorus suggests that the love interest has a power over the singer, as she is described as his "electric mistress" and "making like a maniac." Despite her disconnect, when she turns on, she becomes "infective" to the singer. He is addicted to her, as he wants her more and more, but this desire hurts him.
Overall, the lyrics of "Electric Mistress" explore themes of power dynamics and unhealthy relationships. The singer is in a vulnerable position, being controlled by someone who seems to struggle with their own identity and is easily influenced by others.

@@SeektheLordsface Yes, yes & yes.
If you would just try... to understand that I'm not coming from a "right or wrong"
or even an "opinion" place...
Where I am coming from is SIMPLY & ONLY this:
I cannot tell you the amount of times in my life that I've either been told outright & or overheard people say "oh she or he is a religious nut."
Or "let's cross the street, there's some crazy preaching person over there."
I mean, seriously; it isn't about judging, right or wrong or subjectivity; it's about the consensus we've ALL seen throughout life.
It's just simple that everything in context...
If I'm at a music store & I randomly start reciting scripture or asking people if they're saved; their first instinct is to exit stage left because it's out of context... same as here.
I'm not disagreeing with any of the content, just please know that you catch more flies with HONEY, not preaching.
There are TONS of appropriate times where someone will be MUCH more inclined to take it in vs shut it down.
My sister is super involved in "the church" and many of our relatives avoid her like the plague because she randomly starts asking them if they're saved & talking about it & REFUSES to see that they feel accosted & judged immediately.
No matter how much we want to scream & shout out love for Christ; there is a way & a time to approach the subject if we REALLY care about helping someone open their mind to Him.
Otherwise it just comes off like we're trying to "show" how religious we are & THAT is a huge turn off.
It even says in the Bible to not preach & pray in public (paraphrasing obviously.)
It seems to be saying not to "show off."

Psalms 103:17-18 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them./Inspiration+ Everlasting and unconditional love: nice concepts in theory but very difficult in practice. Not for God. Jesus loved us so much that we literally KILLED Him, He knew that we would, and He STILL loved us. In fact, it was done as a sacrifice so that we could be saved! No mortal love can ever be that strong, but Godβs love for us is infinite. Pledge your finite love to Him so that your love can also become eternal in heaven./Prayer+Powerful God! Please hear my prayer! I want to love You and know You better. Forgive my arrogance and flippant use of the word love. I often say the word love when I do not truly mean it, diminishing the value and underappreciating Your love for me. I am far from perfect, O Lord, but I know that You are. Help me to remember Your commandments and keep them, so that I may have eternal love for You in heaven. In Your holy name I pray, Amen.
