Heart and Soul
Jan Dean Lyrics

Bop de bop bop, de dip dip dip dip
Du du du du du du dun, di diggy di ding ding di ding
Bop de bop bop, de dip dip dip dip
Du du du du du du dun, di diggy di ding donk di donk

Heart and soul, I fell in love with you
Heart and soul, the way a fool would do, madly
Because you held me tight
And stole a kiss in the night

Heart and soul, I begged to be adored
Lost control, and tumbled overboard, gladly
That magic night we kissed
There in the moon mist

Oh, but your lips were thrilling
Much too thrilling
Never before were mine so strangely willing

But now I see, what one embrace can do
Look at me, it's got me loving you madly
That little kiss you stole
Held all my heart and soul

Bop de bop bop, de dip dip dip dip
Du du du du du du dun, di diggy di ding ding di ding
Bop de bop bop, de dip dip dip dip
Bop de bop bop, de dip dip dip dip

Oh, but your lips were thrilling
Much too thrilling
Never before were mine so strangely willing

Yeah, but now I see, what one embrace can do
Look at me, it's got me loving you madly

That little kiss you stole
Held all my heart and soul

Sitting here watching "The Big Band Years" on PBS. Some girl singer is presenting this song. Then I remember an upbeat version from when I was a kid. Looked it up and here I am. Always loved Jan and Dean. This rendition charted at 25 at it's peak, but we heard it on the radio in NY all the time during it's popular run.

Just pipped that position in UK at no. 24 in August/September 1961. Exactly two years later was their only other UK hit; Surf City at no. 26. That reached no. 1 in US.

We saw them at the Orleans in Las Vegas for an outside concert fest. That was about 20 years ago, a couple of years before Jan died. Even though he was already hurting, they still put on a great show.
