Jennie Lee
The lyrics to Jan and Arnie's song "Jennie Lee" are a simple ode to a girl named Jennie Lee. The song opens with a repetitive, catchy beat that carries throughout the entire track. The lyrics then explain how the singer has been searching for someone like Jennie Lee his entire life, stating that her heart is true and just for him. As the song progresses, the singer reveals that he met Jennie Lee just a year ago and that his love for her continues to grow. He cannot live without her, and he even hints at the possibility of marriage in the future. The lyrics end with a repetition of the chorus and the name "Jennie Lee."
While the lyrics to "Jennie Lee" may seem simplistic and repetitive, they capture the essence of young love and infatuation. The song was released in 1958 and quickly climbed the charts, reaching number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. It was written by Jan Berry and Arnie Ginsburg, who were both still in high school at the time. The song became a classic of the surf rock genre and helped to establish Jan and Arnie as rising stars in the music industry.

It's amazing that back in 1958 you could record a song in your garage and have a # 8 Hit !!!

This is one of those songs that I never knew the title of. When you try to sing it to someone to show them how it starts, they just look at you like you are insane! Thank you! I'm NOT insane?
THE FAT BAT

I can't understand any words of this song- except "Jennie Lee"!

Inspired by a real life strip dancer that Jan, Arnie, Dean, and Sandy Nelson would all see at a night club. Jennie reportedly had a pair of nice ones, according to Jan. The Arwin label was owned by Marty Melcher, husband of Doris Day, the music was arranged by the "big sound" of Don Ralke (famous for his "77 Sunset Strip" theme) and the piano overdub was reportedly by Ernie Freeman.
