Father Father the one that i run to
tell my mother im running out of time
Brother brother who listens to me screaming
Ask my sister if she will be alright
The secret sides of me
Are getting hard to see
A secret silence from the words that i can hardly speak
A little part of you
A little part of me
It dies it dies it dies
Alright

Welcome to the show
Ooooo Ooooo and im giving up my lines
Welcome to the show

Ooooo Ooooo and im giving up my lines
Needle needle the one that i comfort
Bottle bottle the one thats on my side
Lightning lightning so much that i can't sleep
and ill light another smoke to try to get it off my mind

And we've all been dead from the start

Overall Meaning

The song "Welcome To The Show" by Jane. is about the challenges of trying to reveal your true self to the world. The singer is seeking comfort and understanding from their family members, particularly their father, brother, and sister. However, they feel like they are unable to fully express themselves and are keeping secrets from even those closest to them. The repetition of "Welcome to the show" throughout the song suggests that the singer feels like they are putting on a performance for the world, and that they are not able to reveal their true self to others. The line "everyone is fake" emphasizes the difficulty of being authentic in a world where people are expected to play specific roles and hide their true feelings.

The song also touches on addiction and the coping mechanisms people use to deal with their struggles. The references to needles and bottles suggest that the singer may be using drugs and alcohol to numb their pain, and the line "ill light another smoke to try to get it off my mind" shows the singer's desire to escape their problems.

Overall, "Welcome To The Show" is a powerful and relatable song about the struggle to reveal your true self and the coping mechanisms people use to deal with their struggles.

Fact is often much stranger
Than fiction, no danger
It's easy to ignore it
Hide your head and don't look for
It's ain't no way to run a universe
Someone's holding the strings of the purse
Got his finger on the trigger
Will he pull it, do you figure?
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Who's winning the human race?
Who's running? Who's setting the pace?
Makes my blood boil in defiance
I fall to my knees and pray for guidance
It's raining, it's pouring
The old man is snoring
Went to bed with a hole in his head
And didn't wake up in the morning
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Let the world feel, let yourself be
Love each other just like you and me
Something's got to give
Better sooner than later, yeah hey, oh, no
Somewhere, someone, somehow, someday
We will find a way
Somewhere, someone, somehow, someday
Yeah hey, oh, ho, oh, no
Welcome to the real world
Who is winning the human race?
Who's running? Who's setting the pace?
Makes my blood boil in defiance
I fall to my knees and pray for guidance
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Somewhere, someone, somehow, someday
(Welcome to, to the real world)
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Somewhere, someone, somehow, someday
(Welcome to, to the real world)
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Somewhere, someone, somehow, someday
(Welcome to, to the real world)
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to, to the real world
Welcome to

I did the finishing on that music video. Spent 2 days with Jane doing the visual effects, final editing, and color timing on that video. Came up with the look for those delicious close ups of her. She was a big talent, and just adorable in person. She's one of my go to female vocalists that I have in my music collection. She's a terrific writer. The director of that video also did the video for Peter Gabriel's "Shock The Monkey"

@Astrobeej

Don't suppose you have a higher quality (higher res, less compressed) video to share?

@kbrodeur

@B.J. West if he worked on the edit and posted that, it wouldn't end well, you know that.

Wow! I've been looking for this video for years! I was one of the extras in this. I'm the prisoner being interrogated. I was 19 living in LA working at Tower Records on Sunset Strip. This video did not get released on MTV because of the controversial scene with the "presumed" Chinese soldier overlooking the crushed bike in the square. This video was made right after the real incident so they re-made the video in a "lighter" tone for MTV. Thanks so much Malignus68!!!
