They moved to New York to study theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Their original plan was to pursue a career on Broadway, but they soon changed their mind and returned to music. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 2003, Monáe founded the Wondaland Arts Society with like-minded young artists, and made a couple of appearances on OutKast's 2006 album Idlewild, where they are featured on the songs "Call the Law" and "In Your Dreams".
By 2007, Monáe was ready to release her first solo work, titled Metropolis. It was originally conceived as a concept album in four parts, or suites, which were to be released through her website and mp3 download sites. After the release of the first part of the series, Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase in mid-2007, these plans were altered following them signing with Sean "Diddy" Combs' label, Bad Boy Records, later in the year. The label gave an official and physical release to the first suite in August 2008, which was retitled Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Special Edition) and included two new tracks. The EP was generally well-received by critics, gaining Monáe a 2009 Grammy nomination in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance for their single "Many Moons", festival appearances, and opening slots for the indie pop band Of Montreal. Monáe also toured as the opening act for band No Doubt on their summer 2009 tour.
In a November 2009 interview, Monáe revealed the title and concept behind her album The ArchAndroid. The second and third suites of Metropolis are combined into this full-length release, in which Monáe's alter-ego, Cindi Mayweather - also the protagonist of Metropolis: The Chase Suite - becomes a messiah-like figure to the android community of Metropolis.

Pink behind all of the doors, crazy
Pink like the tongue that goes down, maybe
Pink like the paradise found
Pink when you're blushing inside, baby
Pink is the truth you can't hide, maybe
Pink like the folds of your brain, crazy
Pink as we all go insane
So, here we are in the car
Leaving traces of us down the boulevard
I wanna fall through the stars
Getting lost in the dark is my favorite part
Let's count the ways we could make this last forever
Sunny, money, keep it funky
Touch your top and let it down
Ah, yeah
Some like that
Ah, ah
Some like that
Ah, yeah
Some like that
'Cause boy it's cool if you got blue
We got the pink
Pink like the lips around your, maybe
Pink like the skin that's under, baby
Pink where it's deepest inside, crazy
Pink beyond forest and thighs
Pink like the secrets you hide, maybe
Pink like the lid of your eye, baby
Pink is where all of it starts, crazy
Pink like the halls of your heart
So, here we are in the car
Leaving traces of us down the boulevard
I wanna fall through the stars
Getting lost in the dark is my favorite part
Let's count the ways we could make this last forever
Sunny, money, keep it funky
Touch your top and let it down
Ah, huh, yeah
Some like that
Ah, ah
Some like that
Ooh, yeah
Some like that
'Cause boy it's cool if you got blue
We got the pink, huh
Yeah, some like that
Oh, some like that
Yeah, some like that
'Cause boy it's cool if you got blue
We got the pink
Pink like the inside of your, baby (we're all just pink)
Pink like the walls and the doors, maybe (deep inside, we're all just pink)
Pink like your fingers in my, maybe
Pink is the truth you can't hide
Pink like your tongue going round, baby
Pink like the sun going down, maybe
Pink like the holes in your heart, baby
Pink is my favorite part
The lyrics of Janelle Monáe's "Pynk" are full of references to one color - pink. The song talks about different aspects of the color and how it's linked to femininity, intimacy, and individuality. Monáe talks about the different shades of pink, from the inside of your body to the deepest parts of your soul. She describes how pink is the truth that you can't hide, and how it's also the color of secrets.
The hook of the song talks about how some people like blue, but they have the pink. This can be interpreted as people who try to conform to certain gender norms, but Janelle Monáe and others who embrace individuality have the "pink" - in this case, meaning the confidence and courage to be themselves. The bridge of the song talks about being in a car and leaving traces down the boulevard, embracing the moment and letting go of any inhibitions.

@Oldaccunt
I don’t think I’ve ever seen black girls portrayed this way ( happy, in love w/ eachother and themselves, in control of their sexuality, etc.) and ? It is so refreshing??? I’m so happy for ya’ll this video is great
@itsbarbiebitch38
Dan Y I just wish they would have Been empowered with their brown labias. Not act like white women. Pushing that white pink pussy
@itsbarbiebitch38
How is this in love with themselves if they aren't even being real about what color it is.... Lolol lmfao
@makalahcollins4469
is that JOSH
@Oldaccunt
roni thacker I don’t think the actual color of a black womans vagina is A. Any of ur (or my) business and B. Important to the video?
Pink symbolizes a lot of things! For example, the Lesbian pride flag is pink and this video is obviously about the Love two women have for each other. It’s also the color of the pussy hats worn during the March For Women and it’s a color that’s been, adopted ? By the feminist movement.
Maybe I’m interrupting this wrong, but maybe pynk means more in the song than the color of a vagina, but refers closer to sapphic love?
And even if the song is about pink vags the women in it are still shown dancing/jumping/smiling/etc. in a way black women aren’t presented in most media.
@tstorm45
roni thacker Black women definitely have pink in their vaginas 😂😂 y'all are crazy lmbo!! That's the unifying factor that no matter what shade you are there are way more similarities than differences and in this case all vaginas have pink
