The remixes of "Throb", commissioned by David Morales, contributed to the song's club success.

Throughout the song, Jackson describes the constant "pounding" from a sexual partner while moaning sexually, which emphasizes she is having an orgasm while having sex through the song; this can be proven in her performance of "Throb" on Saturday Night Live on May 14, 1994, where Jackson puts her hands towards her genitals pretending to stimulate herself while moaning.
