Better Than You
Jani Lane Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
How she was today
You never listen to
A single word she says
You never opened up the door
Just to get into the car
She likes me better than you
What can you say?
She likes me better than you
What can you do?
She just likes me better than you
You never bring her
Flowers anymore
You never want to know
What she's crying for
To find it out you be the luck
You can't buy that at the store
She likes me better than you
What can you say?
We think it's time you were aware
She likes me better than you
What can you do?
She just likes me better than you
She's not gone and she go nine
Hard to tell and now it's mine
Doesn't matter what you do
She's with me and not with you
She likes me better than you
What can you say?
We think it's time you were aware
She likes me better than you
What can you do?
She just likes me better than you
She's not gone and she go nine
Hard to tell and now it's mine
Doesn't matter what you do
She's with me and not with you
The lyrics of Jani Lane's song Better Than You, are about a man who is oblivious to the needs of his significant other. The woman is clearly unhappy in the relationship, and the singer has taken notice. The man doesn't ask how she's doing, doesn't listen to her, and doesn't bring her flowers anymore. These small things add up, and it seems that the woman has found someone else who treats her better.
The singer is not gloating about the situation, but rather pointing out that the man needs to be aware of what's going on. The woman has made her choice, and she likes the singer better than the man. The lyrics suggest that it's time for the man to accept this and move on.
The chorus of the song repeats the same message - "She likes me better than you. What can you say? We think it's time you were aware. She likes me better than you. What can you do? She just likes me better than you." It's a straightforward message that the man needs to accept that the woman has made a choice, and there's nothing he can do about it.

R.I.P. Jani. In my opinion, one of the most talented songwriters in the world. You will be missed. xxoo

Just listened to this blast from the past. Jani was such a great talent. Saw him in Providence, RI on the supporting tour for this album. Small crowd of maybe 100, but man him and his band delivered. We did a meet and greet before the show. Kind of lame to tell the truth, he was not very approachable. Took a couple pics with us but had very little to say. Was not really a 'meet'. Was hoping he would be more fun to hang with. Overall great show though.
