Candy
Janine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some say that love is sweet as a rose,
Some say it's honey and the bee,
Well sit right down and let me tell you
What my love is to me.

"Candy"
I call my sugar "Candy"
Because I'm sweet on "Candy"
And "Candy" is sweet on me

He/She understands me,
My understanding "Candy"
And "Candy"'s always handy
When I need sympathy
I wish that there were four of him/her
So I could love much more of him/her

He/She has taken my complete heart,
Got a sweet tooth for my sweetheart
"Candy"
Its gonna be just dandy
The day I take my "Candy"

And make him mine all mine
Mine

Overall Meaning

Janine's song, "Candy," is an ode to the singer's true love. The lyrics depict the feeling of being smitten with someone, and they also express gratitude for being understood and for having someone by your side when you need it the most. The song masterfully employs metaphors related to sweetness, such as comparing love to a rose or honey, to further illustrate the point. The use of 'Candy' as a pet name for the beloved person adds further meaning to the chorus, emphasizing the sweetness of love.

The first verse is a setup for the rest of the song. Janine notes that opinions about love are subjective due to the variety of ways it can be experienced. However, she believes that her love is represented by a sweet candy, and that Candy is just as sweet on her. The second verse amplifies this idea of mutual reciprocation of love, with Janine praising Candy for consistently being there for her when she needs sympathy or understanding. The third verse speaks to Janine's desire to have more of Candy, as she wishes they could be multiplied so that she can love them even more. Finally, the song ends with an expression of hope that one day she will make Candy hers forever.

Sweet, Sweet sounds... Lizzy meets Glam, fuking perfect!

lynchie137

@Anderson22012 For sure. But there's also more than a few bands from that era that have gotten overlooked. Bands like Big Daisy, for instance. That's another NWOBHM band that nobody seems to talk much about these days, yet they had some really strong songs in their repertoire...

Anderson22012

@lynchie137 Even among NWoBHM enthuisists, let alone hard rock/metal fans, its seems it is very little known. Such a shame.

lynchie137

@Anderson22012 Yeah. it's a really good track. No doubt about that.

Anderson22012

@lynchie137 Hell yes! I first heard this track around 8 years ago, and I still cannot get enough of it.

lynchie137

I'm definitely getting a heavy Lizzy vibe off this. Especially when those harmony guitars come in. In fact, it sounds very much like something that they would have done on their Chinatown album...
