She is most well known for her starring role as Southern belle Whitley Gilbert in the television series A Different World.

During the run of A Different World, she released her self-titled debut album in 1990, which spawned three Billboard Top 100 hits: "Try Me", "Another Like My Lover", and "Just Want To Hold You."

In the spring of 2006, Jasmine spoke to the graduating class at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and revealed that she will record a second album. She commented that of all the entertainment industries, the music industry was the worst. She will sell her new album online herself and not through a major label, similar to the marketing strategy used by Prince.

I loved to hear this song back in the day when they used to play it when radio stations used to have The Quiet Storm after 10:00 p.m. after listen to all the top 10 and top 40 hits during the day of R&B it was so nice to slow it down after 10:00 p.m. and listen to real R&B. These young kids don't know nothing about real R&B music. For me the '90s was the best music 4 my generation!❤

I remember the first time I laid eyes on the beauty, she was in the opening sequence of the popular 80's tv series FAME! She wasn't a principal actor on the show but she was in every dance sequence on the show. The same thing for Michael De Lorenzo from New York Undercover, just like Jasmine Guy he was a dancer on the show and eventually in the last or second to last season he became a principal actor on the show. I love when background talent step out to the front to show their talents.

The male singer on the track is actually legendary duets singer James Ingram. But I guess they could not get him for the video, so they went with showing Mr piano stud from behind there.
Jasmine Guy's CD was really solid. Lots of New Jack Swing dance tracks, but this and one other excellent ballad, "I wish you well" which had Different World co-star Cree Summers on backing vocals.

I remember seeing this video debut at the end of the season finale of "A Different World" back in 1991. I added the cassette single to my slow jam collection. I bought the cd, but it sucked big time. There are only 2 songs on it i liked. This song and "I Don't Have to Justify". That song is the bomb. It's a perfect kiss off for all those people trying to change and define you and can't accept you for who you are. Anyway, the song is very breezy and soothing.
