Why?
Jason Aldean Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's three A.M. and I finally say
I'm sorry for acting that way
I didn't really mean to make you cry
Oh baby, sometimes I wonder why

Does it always have to come down
To you leaving
Before I'll say "I love you"
Why do I always use the words
That cut the deepest
When I know how much it hurts you
Oh baby why, do I do that to you

I know I'd never let you walk away
So why do I push you 'til you break
And why are you always on the verge of good-bye
Before I'll show you how I really feel inside

Does it always have to come down
To you leaving
Before I'll say "I love you"
Why do I always use the words
That cut the deepest
When I know how much it hurts you
Oh baby why, do I do that to you

Why do I always use the words that cut the deepest
When I know how much it hurts you

Oh baby why, do I do that to you
Why do I do that to you

Overall Meaning

In Jason Aldean's song "Why," the singer is apologizing to their significant other for their hurtful behavior. The singer is regretful for the way they acted and is seeking to understand why they continue to cause pain in their relationship. The singer reflects on their tendency to use hurtful words and to push their partner away, even though deep down they know they truly love them. The song is a representation of the struggle we all face in relationships - the inability to fully express our emotions and the fear of vulnerability that comes with it.

The chorus of the song repeats the line, "Why do I always use the words that cut the deepest, when I know how much it hurts you?" This line is the crux of the song, and it portrays the singer's deep sense of remorse for the pain they've caused their partner. The singer questions why they continue to use hurtful language when they know that it will only drive their partner further away. The song is a powerful representation of the internal struggle we all face in relationships - the push-pull between our desire for connection and our fear of vulnerability.

Overall, "Why" is a heartfelt track that explores the complexities of relationships. Through the use of relatable lyrics and a catchy melody, Jason Aldean captures the universal experience of love and loss, and reminds us all of the importance of communication and vulnerability in any relationship.

There are so many country songs that are helping me right now, in rehab, sober for 25 days now, and alone, left a 9 year relationship because of addiction. But all I can do...and hope things just get better for me. Finding myself again after the struggle of addiction and being abused, when I know I am beautiful, loving, fun, smart- basically just forgot all these things....

Hope your still sober and found yourself
