In 1996, he released his first solo album Jason Falkner Presents Author Unknown, which was produced, written, and performed almost entirely by Falkner (the only exception being some guitar overdub done by Alain Johannes). Although it received strong critical reviews, it was not a commercial success. During that same year, he wrote several songs on Brendan Benson's album One Mississippi, and played various instruments on an album released in 1996 by Susanna Hoffs. In 1997, he worked with Eric Matthews on a second album, The Lateness of the Hour, co-producing and assisting on five tracks.
In 1999, Falkner released Can You Still Feel?, another album written and performed as an entire solo effort and was produced with Nigel Godrich. In 2000 Jason was kept very busy, touring and contributing to various projects, including working with and touring as a bassist for the French band Air, and contributing guitar parts to a few Paul McCartney songs. He recorded a song for a tribute album, and played backup on Roger Joseph Manning Jr. and Brian Reitzell's album Logan's Sanctuary.
Jason is credited as performing several instruments on Beck's albums The Information and Modern Guilt from 2006 and 2008. He is currently a part of Beck and St. Vincent's touring bands.
He released his third album I'm OK... You're OK in Japan in 2007. In 2009, he released his fourth album All Quiet on the Noise Floor, again only in Japan. In 2015, he worked with R. Stevie Moore, releasing a collaboration album called Make It Be.

Clean out the reds in my eyes to get by security lines
Dear x-ray machine
Pretend you don't know me so well
I won't tell if you lied
Cry, cause the droughts been brought up
Drinkin' cause you're lookin' so good in your Starbucks cup
I complain for the company that I keep
And I'm nobody
Well who's laughin' now
I'm leaving your town again
And I'm over the ground that you've been spinning
And I'm up in the air so baby hell yeah
Well Honey, I can see your house from here
If the plane goes down, damn
I'll remember where the love was found
If the plane goes down, damn
Damn, I should be so lucky
Even only 24 hours under your touch
You know I need you so much
I cannot wait to call you
And tell you that I landed somewhere
And hand you a square of the airport
And walk you through the maze of the map
That I'm gazing at
Gracefully unnamed and feeling guilty for the luck
And the look that you gave me
You make me somebody
Ain't nobody knows me
Not even me can see it, yet I bet I'm
I'm leaving your town again
And I'm over the ground that you've been spinning
And I'm up in the air, so baby hell yeah
Oh honey I can see your house from here
If the plane goes down, damn
I'll remember where the love was found
If the plane goes down, damn
You keep me high minded
You get me high
Flax seeds, well they tear me open
And supposedly you can crawl right through me
Taste these teeth please
And undress me from these sweaters better hurry
Cause I'm keeping upward bound now
Oh maybe I'll build my house on your cloud
Here I'm tumbling for you
Stumbling through the work that I have to do
Don't mean to harm you
By leaving your town again
But I'm over the quilt that you've been spinning
But I'm up in the air, said baby hell yeah
Oh honey I can see your house from here
If the plane goes down, damn
I'll remember where the love was found
If the plane goes down, damn
I'll remember where the love was found
If the plane goes down, damn
Well I'll remember where the love was found
If the plane goes down, damn
You keep me high
You get me high minded
You keep me high
You get me high minded
The song "The Plan" by Jason Falkner is a story about a person leaving their town, probably for a vacation or work-related travel. The lyrics talk about how the person is preparing for their journey, getting through airport security by clearing their head and eyes. They go on to talk about their relationship with someone who they cannot wait to see again. The person is seeking comfort in their loved one and looks forward to calling them as soon as they land. They feel guilty about their luck and how going on these trips will cause them to leave the people they love behind. In the chorus, the person expresses their fear of the plane crashing and losing the love they have found.
The lines “You keep me high-minded, you get me high” may be interpreted in two different ways. On one hand, they could refer to the person's loved one being their drug, as they keep them high and help them forget the stress and anxiety of travelling. On the other hand, they could also be interpreted as the person's loved one being their source of inspiration and motivation, raising their spirits and helping them feel on top of the world.
Overall, the song is a bittersweet tale of love and longing, and the fear of losing it all in a single moment.
