Live Our Lives
Jason Greeley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We've been surviving nine to fiving
Lately I've been thinking what's it matter climbing that ladder
All it gets ya is gold watch and a pension
A few more wrinkles and a whole lot of gray

Pack up your stuff, throw it in the truck
Call your mama up and tell her we're leaving
As we're screaming pass that city limit sign

Foot out the door, pedal to the floor
Girl, there's more to this world then we're seeing
And I believe it's just be on that county line

Let's put that two tons of freedom in drive
Come on, come on, come on, we gotta live our lives

A little adventure is gonna make us richer
It's what we've been missing in this slow me down sleepy little town
Let's be daring baby, let's stop preparing
Just sit back and let the good times roll

Pack up your stuff, throw it in the truck
Call your mama up and tell her we're leaving
As we're screaming pass that city limit sign

Foot out the door, pedal to the floor
Girl, there's more to this world then we're seeing
And I believe it's just be on that county line

Let's put that two tons of freedom in drive
Come on, come on, come on, we gotta live our lives

Overall Meaning

The song "Live Our Lives" by Jason Greeley talks about the monotony of everyday life and how sometimes it's necessary to break free from it. The first verse sets the stage by talking about how we've been surviving day-to-day, but climbing the corporate ladder doesn't offer us much reward. The second verse suggests leaving behind the familiar and taking a risk. Greeley sings about packing up and hitting the road, leaving town, and driving towards the unknown with the windows down and the pedal to the floor. It is a call to live life more fully, with a little bit of adventure, and not to worry about what the future may hold, but to take the chance to enjoy the moment.

The chorus, "Let's put that two tons of freedom in drive, come on, come on, come on, we gotta live our lives," is an anthem for making the most of the opportunities that come our way, and living our lives to the fullest. It's about embracing the unexpected and going for it. The bridge with the lines "Let's be daring baby, let's stop preparing" and "just sit back and let the good times roll" offers up a carefree attitude of taking risks and stepping into the unknown.
