Irony of Loneliness
Jason Mraz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
What's in your heart?
What do you do when light retreats
And leaves you in the dark?
I want you to know wherever you go
That this cause isn′t lost
We don't have to feel alone
The irony of loneliness is
We feel it at the same time
What's on your mind?
What′s in your heart?
What do you do when life hits you really hard?
I want you to know wherever you go
We will always be part of the same great unknown
The irony of loneliness is we feel it at the same time
What′s on your mind?
What's in your heart?
Where do you go knowing someday we′ll depart?
The comedy of tragedy is it makes you feel alive
The irony of loneliness is we feel it at the same time
(Alright let's go ahead and turn on the lasers)
I feel it too
I feel it too
And I feel for you
I feel it too
I feel it too
I′m feeling you
I'm feeling you
I′m thinking about you
You
The lyrics of Jason Mraz's song "Irony of Loneliness" explore themes of connection, empathy, and the shared experience of loneliness. The song begins with a series of questions: "What's on your mind? What's in your heart?" It suggests that when we face darkness and isolation, we may feel alone. However, the singer wants to convey that regardless of our individual situations, we do not have to endure this loneliness by ourselves. He wants the listener to know that the cause of combating loneliness is not lost and that there is always a sense of togetherness, regardless of physical distance or circumstances.
The chorus, "The irony of loneliness is we feel it at the same time," highlights the paradoxical nature of loneliness. This line suggests that even though we may experience loneliness individually, there is a collective aspect to it that unites us. It is a reminder that we are not alone in our feelings.
As the song progresses, it continues to express the desire for connection and understanding. It acknowledges the hardships of life and the inevitability of separation in the future. However, it also emphasizes that tragedy brings a sense of being alive and that loneliness, despite its irony, is something we can all relate to.
