Way before his impressive hit, Jason had been enjoying a long and illustrious relationship with music - not just making it, but being passionate about his love for it too. "I’ve always been into various types of music” he explains “Not just dance music but everything from 70’s tunes to 80’s pop, tons of classic rock..... and everything in between.” “Dance is only a small portion of the music that I really enjoy and listen to…my musical taste encompasses a very wide spectrum.”
Jason picked up on dance music in the early 80’s when he heard mixed tapes circulating around his native New York. While going to college (originally a graphic design major), Jason eventually changed his major to Telecommunication and embarked in the exciting field of television and radio as well as landing a slot on a major market radio station. There, Jason played a diverse mix of underground New York house and more mainstream dance on the radio as well as in the clubs. After graduating and moving back to New York though, Jason initially traveled on the underground, making cut & paste tracks for a wealth of dance labels. Over time, Jason’s musical passion and “knocking down the doors” business tactics gave him the edge that he needed to gradually move to the next level. “I just love the process of making music and then selling it” explains Jason. “So I continually worked and sold, worked and sold." “I love working on multiple projects, so I never stayed with one song or one label- I was always was on to the next musical endeavor.”
Though remixes initially never really paid much financially, Jason enjoyed doing them and maintained a habit of taking tracks that he liked and working them into something different, then presenting them to different labels as new products. A slightly backwards procedure to some, but one that firmly underlines his commitment to music. As his commercial success continued, he began to receive commissions to remix the likes of Lil Kim, Janet Jackson, Missy Elliot and Madonna, but in 1998 his unorthodox approach to mixing other people’s tunes finally paid off when his own creation of ‘It’s Like That” combining hip hop legends- RUN-DMC’s elements of “Its Like That” with his own signature sound was released.
The massive tune that started off on 50 white label copies went on to sell close to a staggering 5 MILLION copies, hitting number ONE in over 30 countries and making Jason ‘technically’ the biggest dance pop star America has ever had. Everyone from Ricky Martin and Robbie Williams to Prince, Britney and even Courtney Love were soon receiving his "Midas touch". ““Its Like That” blew my mind as well as many other people’s” says Jason “I started in the underground and moved extremely fast into the mainstream- and that type of stardom can shake anybody up pretty good. It’s not as easy as it looks to travel all over the world, be on MTV and do interviews. It was one of the most unbelievable times in my life and it was tons of fun but it also puts a huge amount of pressure on you.”
”Since then, I’m doing a lot of rock/ dance and rock/hip hop fusions such as the remix I did of ‘Rock Star’ by N.E.R.D ,my mix of Elvis’ "Rubberneckin", the massive remix of “Work It” by Nelly featuring Justin Timberlake. I just did a new track for my new album called “Git Money” which features the Rockafella duo- The Young Gunz and legendary rocker Billy Squier.” Jason says. Since working on the fusion rock sound for about 2 ½ years now and it is doing really well for me.” Because of incorporating rock elements into dance and hip hop- Im getting calls for artists like Duran Duran, Anastacia and Kelly Clarkson who want me to use my unique mixture of different styles into their songs.” I worked with Duran Duran on Sunrise their new album on Sony and it seems very promising- I did 2 other songs of theirs and they were kind enough to work with me on “Alive”, a track for my album.”
Jason Nevins is the leader in ROCK DANCE and is on a mission to devastate dancefloors and the influx the airwaves. Despite spending over a decade in the business and scoring one of the dance world’s biggest hits, he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Just make sure you keep your ears peeled for the latest installment - coming soon to a sound system near you.

Don't you know I'm loco?
To da one on da flam
Boy it's tough
I just toss that ham in the fryin' pan
Like spam
It's done when I come in
Damn, I feel like the Son of Sam
Don't make me wrek ya hectic
Automatic got me goin' like Gen'ral Electric
Damn
The lights are blinking I'm thinking
It's all over when I go out drinking
Oh
Makin' my mind slow,
That's why I don't fuck wit da big four-oh
Bro
I got ta' maintain
'Cause a nigga like me is goin' insane
[Chorus: x4]
Insane in the membrane
Insane in the brain!
Do my shit undercover
Now it's time for for the blubber
Blabber
To watch dat belly get fatter
Fat boy on a diet
Don't try it
I'll check your ass like a looter in a riot
Much too fast like a sumo slammin' dat ass
Leavin' your face in the grass
You know
I don't take a chulo
Lightly
Bitch just jealous 'cause he can't outwrite me
So kick that style, wicked
Wild
Happy face nigga never seen me smile
Whip dat mainframe
I'll explain
A nigga like me is goin' insane
[Chorus: x4]
Like Louie Armstrong
Play the trumpet, I'll hit dat bong
And break ya off somethin' soon
I got ta get my props
Cops
Come and try ta' snatch my crops
These pigs want to blow my house down
Head underground
To the next town
They get mad when they come to raid my pad
And I'm off in the night deuce Cad
Yes I'm the pirate
Pilot
Of this ship if I get wit' the ultraviolet dream
Hide from the red light beam
Now do you believe in the unseen
Look
But don't make ya' eyes strain
A nigga like me is goin' insane
[Chorus: x4]
The lyrics to Jason Nevins's "Insane in the Brain" depict a persona who identifies as crazy ("Don't you know I'm loco?") and feels as if they are losing their mind ("A nigga like me is goin' insane"). The song is a high-energy rap and the lyrics reflect this with vivid and sometimes nonsensical imagery. The persona describes tossing ham in a frying pan, feeling like the Son of Sam, and checking someone's "ass like a looter in a riot". The persona also references drug use, including smoking marijuana ("Play the trumpet, I'll hit dat bong") and getting drunk ("It's all over when I go out drinkin'").
The repetition of the chorus, "Insane in the membrane, insane in the brain!", emphasizes the persona's state of mind, and the use of Spanish ("Who you tryin' ta mess with ese?" and "I don't take a chulo lightly") adds to the multicultural feel of the song. The lyrics reflect a persona who is unapologetically himself and does not care about societal norms or expectations. The song can be interpreted as a celebration of individuality and breaking free from conformity.
