Javed debuted by singing a track from the movie Beti No.1, but it didn't help his career much. After that, he sang for several movies including Chameli, Dil Jo Bhi Kahey, Golmaal - Fun Unlimited, Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na, Neal 'n' Nikki and Zindaggi Rocks among others. He was noted for his renedering of the Punjabi-based track Nagaada Nagaada in the 2007 movie Jab We Met alongside Sonu Nigam. It's been a long and hard struggle for this 29 year old talented singer. However he has shot to real fame in 2008 with the song Jashn-E-Bahaara in the magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar, which is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and music composed by A R Rahman and also a popular song Ek Din Teri Rahon Me composed by Pritam for the movie Naqaab. His latest hit, "Tu Muskura" which he has sung along with Alka Yagnik is from the movie Yuvvraaj, again from A R Rahman. Recently, Javed Ali has struck a chord with another single composed by A R Rahman called "Guzarish" that includes guest vocals of Sonu Nigam from Aamir Khan's latest movie Ghajini.

The lyrics to Javed Ali's song Ali Baba express the pain and confusion of unrequited love. The repetitive use of "Rabba ve," which can be translated to "Oh God," highlights the singer's plea for help and understanding. The opening lines, "Bba ve, Rabba ve," set a somber tone before the first verse begins.
In the first verse, the singer questions why their dreams are haunted by the object of their affection. They wonder why their heart feels lonely and their tongue is silenced in the presence of this person. The use of ashkon (tears) indicates that the singer is overwhelmed with emotion and unable to express themselves fully.
The chorus, which repeats twice throughout the song, emphasizes the pain that the singer is feeling. They exclaim "Kyun dard hai itna. tere ishq mein" ("Why does love hurt so much?") and call out to God for help. The repetition of "Rabba ve" creates a sense of desperation and sorrow.
Overall, Javed Ali's Ali Baba expresses the universal experience of unrequited love and the pain that comes with it. The use of repetition and questioning emphasizes the singer's confusion and distress.
