Eyes without a face
Javiera Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm all out of hope
One more bad dream
Could bring a fall
When I'm far from home
Don't call me on the phone
To tell me you're alone
It's easy to deceive
It's easy to tease
But hard to get release

Les yeux sans visage eyes without a face
Les yeux sans visage eyes without a face
Les yeux sans visage eyes without a face
Got no human grace your eyes without a face.

I spend so much time
Believing all the lies
To keep the dream alive
Now it makes me sad
It makes me mad at truth
For loving what was you

Les yeux sans visage eyes without a face
Les yeux sans visage eyes without a face
Les yeux sans visage eyes without a face
Got no human grace your eyes without a face.

Now I close my eyes
And I wonder why
I don't despise
Now all I can do
Is love what was once
So alive and new
But it's gone from your eyes
I'd better realise

Les yeux sans visage eyes without a face
Les yeux sans visage eyes without a face
Les yeux sans visage eyes without a face
Got no human grace your eyes without a face.

Such a human waste your eyes without a face
And now it's getting worse.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Eyes Without A Face" by Javiera are both haunting and contemplative, and seem to speak to the emotional pain of lost love and the struggle to move on from it. The opening lines of the song express a sense of hopelessness and vulnerability, with the singer acknowledging that even one more bad dream could be enough to make them fall apart. They also express a desire for distance from the one who has caused this pain, stating that they don't want to be told when the other person is alone because it's too easy to fall back into old patterns of deception and manipulation.

The chorus of the song, with its repetition of "eyes without a face", seems to suggest that the subject of the singer's pain has lost their humanity, becoming more of a blank, emotionless vessel than a real person. They have lost their grace and their ability to love, leaving the singer feeling alone and adrift in their grief. The second verse is particularly poignant, with the singer reflecting on the lies they have told themselves in order to keep their dream alive, and feeling angry at the truth for forcing them to confront the reality of what they have lost.

The final verse of the song takes on a more reflective tone, with the singer acknowledging that they can no longer hold onto the hope that things will go back to the way they were before. They close their eyes and wonder why they don't hate the person who has caused them so much pain, but ultimately they are left with a sense of loss and acceptance that what once was is gone forever. The repeated refrain of "eyes without a face" takes on a darker meaning in this final verse, suggesting that the singer sees their former lover as not just devoid of love, but actively harmful to their sense of self.
