I Got U
Jax Jones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ask me what I did with my life
I spent it with you
If I lose my fame and fortune
Really don't matter
As long as I got you, baby

Clap your hands, drop so right
Clap your hands, drop so right
Clap your hands, drop so right
As long as I got you, baby
Clap your hands, drop so right
Clap your hands, drop so right
Clap your hands, drop so right
As long as I got you

Ask me what I did with my life
I spent it with you
If I lose my fame and fortune
Really don't matter
As long as I got you, baby

Clap your hands, drop so right
Clap your hands, drop so right
Clap your hands, drop so right
As long as I got you, baby
Clap your hands, drop so right
Clap your hands, drop so right
Clap your hands, drop so right
As long as I got you

As the years, they pass us by
We stay on to each other
And no matter ? its OK
As long as I got you, baby

Clap your hands, drop so right
As long as I got you, baby
Clap your hands, drop so right
As long as I got you, baby
Clap your hands, drop so right
As long as I got you, baby
Clap your hands, drop so right
As long as I got you, baby
As long as I got you
As long as I got you
As long as I got you

As long as I got you
As long as I got you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jax Jones's "I Got U" are a declaration of love and commitment to a significant other. The singer proclaims that no matter what happens in their life, as long as they have their partner by their side, nothing else matters. They reiterate this sentiment throughout the song, saying that they have spent their life with this person and that they will stay with them no matter what.

The repetition of the phrase "clap your hands, drop so right" creates an infectious beat for the listener, encouraging movement and dancing. However, the true heart of the song lies in the message of unbreakable love and devotion. The singer acknowledges that as time passes, things may change, but as long as they have the one they love, they will be okay.

The overall theme of the song is one of gratitude and appreciation for the person who is always there for them. The lines "ask me what I did with my life, I spent it with you" show that the singer recognizes the importance of the relationship they have and that they are willing to prioritize it above other things.

@viktortje007

I went to Thailand with 6 friends in November 2022. I showed them this video several times before and told them I wanted to complete this bucketlist of activities with them. After 3 weeks, by the end of November and 4 days before departure, we were in Khao Sok. I said I wanted to ride a scooter in the mountains just like on 3:31 but the guys preferred a cooking workshop, so I went alone eventhough I only had little experience.

My friends joked about me messing up and told me to stay safe and not do any wheelies or to film, and I took that serious. After I went out and took the trip from Khao Sok to Khao Lak, the roads turned out to look like an exact copy of this video. It took me 3 hours (instead of 1,5) to reach Khao Lak due to careful driving and wet rainy roads. I stayed at Khao Lak Beach for just half an hour, so I could be back in Khao Sok before nightfall. The road back is one of the greatest memories of my life. I gained confidence in driving while I listened to this and similar songs.. feeling completely accomplished.

Halfway, 45 minutes after departure, I stopped to cautiously cross the only intersection of the trip. When I crossed the empty road I steered in too lightly and tried to brake to readjust my line but instead of braking I pulled the gas. I went straight ahead towards an advertisement sign and at 30/40km an hour, my brain decided that it would be smarter to calculate falling of my bike instead of not being able to find the brakes and go straight through the sign. (Which sounds fair). I fell down sideways, calculated, on my shoulder, which was slightly broken and healed after 3 weeks.. but just before hitting the ground my foot turned in-ways which led to a rare Lisfranc fracture, scrambling and breaking all middlefoot bones.

While hearing Free Bird through the airpods some non-Englishspeaking locals approach me and after trying but not being able to stand on my feet (adrenaline was higher than pain) I accept their sign-language to call an ambulance. 15 seconds after lying in the back of a closed ambulance it stops and it turns out the accident was 50 meter from a hospital, but a hospital like in The Walking Dead. I was the literal only patient in a quite big but dark, dirty and sketchy hospital including 5 non-English nurses and one barely speaking doctor.

After 4 hours, several x-rays and many ignored Translated painkiller requests I left with some bandages for my shoulder and foot, one paracetamol, and a €90,- bill mostly consisting of that one paracetamol. The next day doctors in Bangkok wanted to provide surgery, but I preferred to take the scheduled trip to Europe 2 days later. Straight from the airport the doctors in Amsterdam told me that even after surgery I would likely not be able to properly walk for 6-9 month and I may never be able to fully run.

Halfway January I set my first steps with a brace and crotches, by the end of Februari I started to walk properly and independently. -In April I went snowboarding which was cautiously and not fun-, in June the nails in my foot got removed, in August I could jog and walk for 10km without hurting. By the end of november, a year after the accident, I could run.

Today, 15 months after the accident, I got some big scars, cannot sport like I used to do and had a change of life. Still I will always cherish one of the greatest and lasting memories of my life by pursuing this video.

TLDR - Great clip
