It's So Easy
Jay Reatard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's so easy
When your friends are dead
It's so much easier
When you don't even care

All these faces mean nothing to me

It's so easy
When your friends are dead
It's so much easier
When you don't even care

All these faces mean nothing to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jay Reatard's song "It's So Easy" appear to describe a sense of detachment and apathy towards others. The repeated lines stating that it is "so easy" when friends are dead and when one doesn't care suggest a lack of emotional investment or empathy towards others. This detachment is further emphasized by the lines "all these faces mean nothing to me." It seems that the singer does not value the connections or relationships they have with others, perhaps as a coping mechanism for dealing with loss or difficult emotions.

This sense of detachment can also be read as a commentary on the desensitization of modern society. With the abundance of constantly updating news feeds and social media platforms, it is easy to become overwhelmed with the sheer amount of information and images that we are exposed to on a daily basis. It can be tempting to shut off from the world and become indifferent to the events and people around us. However, in doing so, we risk losing our sense of humanity and empathy, becoming mere spectators of life rather than active participants.

Overall, Jay Reatard's "It's So Easy" is a simple but powerful statement on the importance of human connection and the dangers of isolation and detachment.

I feel like by the time this music had been publicated, people were so "trapped out" nobody wanted to hear it. I've listened to this type of genre and it's predecessors since I was 13 or so. Looks like I was 15 nearly when youtube saw this one. I wish rock lasted longer than 50 years...from start to finish

This seems to be a different recording than the one on Spotify and iTunes. This one is far better tough.
