Never content to stick to one genre, one project or one band, Jay also co-led the synth-punk Lost Sounds with Alicja Trout, played drums for The Final Solutions, pursued the solo project Terror Visions, co-fronted The Angry Angles and ran his own label, Shattered Records.
In 2006, In The Red announced the release of Blood Visions, Jay's first album as a solo artist, which combined the aggressive approach of Reatards with a melodic pop sensibility, and production recalling classic UK punk records -- The Adverts (who he covered), Siouxsie & the Banshees, ATV, etc.
On January 13, 2010, Jay was found dead at the age of 29 at his home in Memphis. A statement was posted on the website of Goner Records that Reatard had died in his sleep. His autopsy reported he died of cocaine toxicity and alcohol as a contributing factor.

Turning Blue
Jay Reatard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Shaking in my skin
I know it's nice
To find beginnings and ends
As sad as it seems
You're turning blue in my dreams
You got nothing to do
Don't run around
Trying to run this town
As sad as it seems
You're turning blue in my dreams
As sad as it seems
You're turning blue in my dreams
The opening lines, "You got me sweating/Shaking in my skin," alludes to a state of anxiety or nervousness caused by a situation or a person. The song seems to revolve around the idea of how people can change for the worse, and the singer has a deep sadness and despair about it. In the chorus, he says, "As sad as it seems/You're turning blue in my dreams," suggesting that the person he is singing about, who was once vibrant and colorful, is now going through a negative transformation. The "turning blue" is a metaphor for the way this person is becoming less lively, less full of vitality, and is fading away.
The next verse is a piece of advice towards the person the song is addressing; "Look at you/You got nothing to do/Don't run around/Trying to run this town". The singer thinks that the person is harming themselves by trying to control and take over everything in their environment. He believes that the person is becoming insufferable and that they need to take a step back and find a new direction. The phrase "turning blue in my dreams" is repeated in the chorus, driving home the idea of a lost, trapped soul.
