He also plays in the rock band Von Benzo, who released an album in 2009.
Smith's first solo single was Dreaming People. He released his debut album, the self-titled Jay Smith (featuring the best songs from his time in Idol) on 19 December 2010. The album shot straight to #1 in its first week of release in the Swedish Albums Chart.
