Have You Ever Been Lonely
Jaye P. Morgan Lyrics

Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue
Have you ever loved someone
Just as I love you
Can't you see I'm sorry
For each mistake I've made
Can't you see I've changed, dear
Can't you see I've paid
Be a little forgiving
Take me back in your heart
How can I go on living
Now that we're apart
If you knew what I've been thru
Then you'd know why I ask you
Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue

Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue
Have you ever loved someone
Just as I love you
Can't you see that I'm sorry
For each mistake I made
Can't you see I've changed, dear
Can't you see that I've paid
Oh, be a little forgivin'
Take me back in your heart
How can I go on livin'
Now that we're apart
If you knew what I been thru
You would know why I ask you
Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue
Be a little forgivin'
Take me back in your heart
How can I go on livin'
Now that we're apart
If you knew what I been through
You would know why I ask you

Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue

Overall Meaning

Jaye P. Morgan's "Have You Ever Been Lonely" is a heartbreaking ballad about lost love and the regret and sorrow that come with it. The singer is pleading with their ex-lover to forgive them and take them back, even though they know they messed up and hurt the other person. The lyrics convey a sense of desperation as the singer emphasizes their changes and the price they’ve paid to show their sincerity. The repetition of the lines “Have you ever been lonely/ Have you ever been blue” emphasizes the loneliness and sadness that the singer is experiencing, which they can't escape without the love of their ex.

The chorus of the song encourages the ex-lover to be compassionate and forgive the singer because they realize how alone and unhappy they are without them. The final verse repeats the pleas that the character has made in previous verses. The use of the personal pronoun "you" throughout the lyrics ensures that the song does not feel one-sided, and the character is speaking directly to their ex. Through Morgan’s emotive voice and delivery of the lines, the lyrics grip the listener, and they can feel the emotions behind the words.

Jaye P's overt television appearances eventually overshadowed her singing career. That's unfortunate, because she could certainly sing. She carved out a brief but successful top ten invasion in the mid fifties, that is now largely forgotten.
