Popcorn
Jean-Michel Jarre Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Had some things below the surface that were bubbling up
cttention deficit from you keeps us from adding it up
I've been holding back a little bit
Kept it to myself, bout to call it quits
Just to go and throw it away
Yeah I was thinking we could stop the stop and go,
cin't you lonely?
Hiding me from homies trying to keep it low key
If you ain't about it you can leave
I ain't bout to stop you chasing out your dreams
What's forever mean?

Keep on looking back on better days
Wanna see your face cause I always want you leaning on me

Can't believe it but we didn't break
There's a better place and I'll always feel you leaning on me

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Jean-Michel Jarre's song "Popcorn" explore the complexities of a relationship that is on the verge of ending. The opening lines, "Had some things below the surface that were bubbling up, attention deficit from you keeps us from adding it up," suggest that there have been underlying issues in the relationship that have been brewing and causing dissatisfaction. The singer feels like their partner's inability to focus or pay attention to these issues has hindered their ability to address and resolve them.

The following lines, "I've been holding back a little bit, kept it to myself, bout to call it quits, just to go and throw it away," indicate that the singer has been keeping their emotions and concerns to themselves, but they are now considering ending the relationship. They feel like their efforts to communicate and work through the problems are being disregarded, leading them to contemplate leaving.

The chorus, "Yeah I was thinking we could stop the stop and go, can't you lonely? Hiding me from homies trying to keep it low key," expresses a desire for stability and clarity in the relationship. The singer wants their partner to acknowledge their feelings and stop hiding their relationship from others. They question whether their partner truly wants to be with them and if they are willing to commit to making the relationship work.

Despite the difficulties, the lyrics acknowledge that there were better days in the relationship and a shared connection between the two individuals. The lines, "Keep on looking back on better days, wanna see your face cause I always want you leaning on me, can't believe it but we didn't break," reveal a longing for the past and a willingness to continue supporting each other. The singer believes that there is a better future ahead and that they will always be there for their partner, providing support and comfort.

Overall, these lyrics convey a sense of frustration, uncertainty, and a desire for genuine commitment in a relationship that is facing challenges. They reflect the complexities of human emotions and the struggle to find resolution and understanding.

Love Jean Michel Jarre's music. Love the Oxygene songs and love the song Popcorn. Whether this is his or not, I love it. I didn't realize how many versions there are of Popcorn. Love them all. Thank you.

Satan

This isn't even Jarre, it's M&H Band

NROS2012

It used to annoy me that people would attribute this to JMJ but I think he'd would be complemented - the fact that 40 years on from oxygene, when people here an electronic track without words they think of him! He is a legend and so is Gershon Kingsley. Hot Butter did the famous version on the charts.

KGBeast

The fact is that even this version isn't his it's M&H Band

HonkDeath

Literal.

Jesús Zafra
