Isolation
Jeff Beck & Johnny Depp Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

People say we got it made
Don't they know we're so afraid?
Isolation

We're afraid to be alone
Everybody got to have a home
Isolation
Just a boy and a little girl
Trying to change the whole wide world
Isolation

The world is just a little town
Everybody trying to put us down
I, Isolation

I don't expect you, to understand
After you caused so much pain
But then again, you're not to blame
You're just a human, a victim of the insane

We're afraid of everyone
Afraid of the sun
Isolation

The sun will never disappear
But the world may not have many years
I, Isolation

I don't expect you, to understand
After you've caused so much pain
But then again, you're not to blame
You're just a human, a victim of the insane

Victim of the insane

People say we got it made

Don't they know we're so afraid
I, I

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp's song Isolation describe feelings of fear, loneliness, and isolation. The opening lyrics suggest that despite the outward appearance of having it all, the singer and those around them are "so afraid" and living in isolation. This isolation is further emphasized with the repetition of the chorus, which declares that "isolation" is the state in which we find ourselves.

The second verse focuses on the universal desire for connection and the fear of being alone. The lines "We're afraid to be alone/Everybody got to have a home" speak to the fact that everyone wants to belong somewhere and to someone. However, despite these shared desires, the world is often an isolating and oppressive place, as noted in the third verse when the singer describes how they are trying to "change the whole wide world" but are met with resistance and hostility from those around them.

The final verse highlights the twin fears of mortality and the unknown. The line "The sun will never disappear/But the world may not have many years" suggests that while we cannot control the natural world, we can control our own actions and contributions to society. The lines "I don't expect you, to understand/After you've caused so much pain" acknowledge that while the singer may feel alienated from others, they also recognize that everyone is a "victim of the insane" world in which we live.

Overall, the song Isolation explores feelings of fear, loneliness, and isolation in the face of an often-hostile and unpredictable world.

Absolutely Brilliant Rock

@supertotoro

Yes, he is considered by most as one of the most talented guitarist of all time. Among British guitarist usually the 3 Yardbird guitarist, Page, Clapton and Beck end up in the top or close to the top when rated by their skill and importance in rock history.

As a huge Jeff Beck fan I hope his collaboration with Johnny Depp introduces him to people who might not have otherwise heard of him. Jeff is one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
