Like A Hurricane
Jeff Healey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Once I thought I saw you in a crowded hazy bar,
Dancing on the light from star to star.
Far across the moonbeam I know thats who you are,
I saw your brown eyes turning once to fire.

You are like a hurricane
Theres calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but I'm getting blown away.

I am just a dreamer, but you are just a dream,
You could have been anyone to me.
Before that moment you touched my lips
That perfect feeling when time just slips
Away between us on our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
Theres calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but I'm getting blown away.

You are just a dreamer, and I am just a dream.
You could have been anyone to me.
Before that moment you touched my lips
That perfect feeling when time just slips
Away between us on our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
Theres calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin blown away

To somewhere safer where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but I'm getting blown away.

Overall Meaning

The song "Like A Hurricane" by Jeff Healey is a love ballad that talks about the intense feelings that come with love. The lyrics describe the main character's desire for someone who they believe is like a force of nature - a hurricane. The opening lines describe the feeling of being lost in a crowded bar and suddenly seeing the object of one's desire across the room, illuminated by the starry lights. The lyrics then go on to reveal the singer’s vulnerability as they talk about their feelings for this person, comparing their emotions to a force of nature, a hurricane. Despite the storm in their heart, they admit that they also see calmness in the object of their affection’s eyes. In the end, the singer expresses their desire to love this person but also recognizes the danger of being too deeply invested in a love that is like a hurricane, always blowing them away.

The mere fact that Jeff taught himself to play guitar the way he did was nothing short of amazing. Stevie Ray Vaughn even said he thought Jeff was probably the greatest guitar player he had ever heard. That's pretty damn solid right there. R.I.P. Jeff .

1989 sitting in a bar in downtown Calgary, Alberta with my best friend watching Jeff perform a little gig. After the show he walked over to our table with a friend helping him and asked if he could sit down for a drink. We talked with him for a half hour or so and we left thinking it wasn't such a big deal. Years later I still listen to him and play along. Thanks for the inspiration and music Jeff.

I’m not a Calgarian by birth, but by choice(many years later, half my life here now). Wish I’d had such a privilege. Jeff deserves to be recognized more. An amazing Canadian performer.

Abraços do Sul do Brasil.
