Better than I hoped for and prayed.
Here tonight, gone today.
But I like it that way.
Thinkin' about a moment,
I can never seem to replace.
It's the look in your face,
That your heart isn't mine.
But please could I borrow it?
I'll give it right back in the morning light.
In a world of regret,
With a head full of emptiness,
A wish that will never come true.
But at least I'm enjoying the view.
Somebody else's lover,
Tellin' me that I'm her best friend.
But I cannot pretend,
That is not what I meant.
Give it another minute,
Later we will say our farewells.
I'm not done with you still.
You were there when I fell.
It was easy to tell,
That your heart isn't mine.
But please could I borrow it?
I'll give it right back in the morning light.
In a world of regret,
With a head full of emptiness,
A wish that will never come true.
But at least I'm enjoying the view.
I'm not asking for oceans,
Of endless devotion.
Just give me an hour or two.
Here's a door and some music.
I suggest that you use it.
It's the language of lover's "adeui"
Parlez-vous?
And your heart isn't mine.
So please could I borrow it?
I'll give it right back in the morning light.
In a world of regret,
With a head full of emptiness,
A wish that will never come true.
But at least I'm enjoying the view.
I know some things weren't meant to pursue.
I'm not leaving till you know it too.
In the song "Enjoy the View" by Jeff Jacobs, the singer reflects on a fleeting moment of romance that he knows cannot last. He acknowledges that the person he is interested in is someone else's lover, but he still enjoys the time they spend together. He wishes that he could have this person's heart, even if it's just for a little while. Jeff's lyrics tell us that life is full of regrets, but he's still enjoying the present moment.
The opening lines of the song, "Better than I Imagined, Better than I hoped for and prayed" suggest that Jeff is pleasantly surprised by this moment of intimacy with someone. Yet he seems to recognize that this happiness is temporary by saying "here tonight, gone today" and says he likes it that way, implying that it's better to have a short-lived happiness than none at all. As the song progresses, he asks the person he's with if he could "borrow" their heart for a little while, knowing that nothing can come of it.
The last verse of the song reveals that Jeff is not interested in a long-term commitment. He sings "I'm not asking for oceans/ Of endless devotion/ Just give me an hour or two." While he wishes he could have a future with this person, he's content to simply enjoy their company for the moment. The lyrics "I know some things weren't meant to pursue/ I'm not leaving till you know it too" suggest that Jeff is willing to end things before they become too serious, and he doesn't want anyone to get hurt.
