Don´t Slip Away
Jefferson & Airplane Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Almost been a year since we've been together
Seems so long ago since you drifted away
Suddenly the past has fallen in behind us
Now all I know is I want you to stay
Don't slip away, oh no, don't slip away
Now that you're here we should just let it happen
You know I'm sorry, but what can I say?
The best years are after tomorrow
But time for changing should begin with today.
Don't slip away, oh no, don't slip away
Now that you're here we should just let it happen
You can't hide what we shared with each other
I know you still care and feel the same way
I'm sure there's more love in your heart than you're showing
Now it depends on what you have to say.
Don't slip away, oh no, don't slip away
Now that you're here we should just let it happen
In Jefferson Airplane's Don´t Slip Away, the singer longs for his former lover to come back to him. He acknowledges the time apart and the past, but urges her not to slip away again. The lyrics suggest a deep and abiding love for the woman and a sense of regret for having let her go in the first place.
The singer tries to persuade her that some things are better left forgotten and that the time for change is now. He believes that they can reconcile and create a future together, free from the mistakes of the past. The repetition of the refrain "Don't slip away, oh no, don't slip away" highlights the urgency and desperation of the singer's plea to his former lover.

It's great to hear this once again. Listening thru the "Takes Off" LP on youtube. I already know the album sequence of the songs thru repeated listenings from my highschool days, when I had this LP and most everyone else was getting into disco. I still care and feel the same way. Well....maybe now I can stomach some disco songs a little better. Even disco has a few tunes that've survived 30+ years.- which I doubt will be said of what is being produced today.
