She Has Funny Cars
Jefferson Airplane Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And find out what's inside you
Time goes on and I don't know just where you are
Or how I'm going to find you
You can do whatever you please
The world's waiting to be seized
You can collect all neglect
And I know, and I know, and I know
Your mind's guaranteed
It's all you'll ever need
So what do you want with me?
We live but once
But good things can be found around
In spite of all the sorrow
If you see black
You can't look back
You can't look front
You cannot face tomorrow
Some have it nice
Fat and round, flash, paradise
They're very wise to their disguise
Trying to revolutionize tomorrow
And I know, and I know, and I know
Your mind's guaranteed
It's all you'll ever need
So what do you want with me?
The lyrics of Jefferson Airplane's "She Has Funny Cars" seem to be about the singer trying to understand someone he cares about deeply, but who is difficult to read. The first stanza speaks to the struggle of trying to figure out what's going on inside someone's head, and the sense of disconnection that can come from not knowing where they stand. He is frustrated, but still feels drawn to this person.
The second stanza hints at a sense of rebellion and independence, with references to "collect[ing] all neglect" or "all the self-respect you need." The singer seems to admire this trait, while acknowledging that it makes it even harder to understand what this person wants or needs from him. He wonders aloud why this person would want anything to do with him, when their sharp mind could take them anywhere they want to go.
The final stanza touches on themes of hope and despair, with lines like "good things can be found around" and "trying to revolutionize tomorrow." The singer seems to be expressing a sense of hopefulness, even in the face of difficult circumstances or a bleak outlook. The last lines of the song suggest that the person he's singing to has a lot going for them, but that he still feels uncertain about what he could offer them.
Overall, the song seems to be about the tension between wanting to understand someone and feeling powerless to do so, as well as the complex mix of admiration, frustration, and uncertainty that can come when trying to connect with someone who is independent and strong-willed.

Ella Tiene Coches divertidos
No puedes mirar hacia atrĂĄs
No puedes mirar hacia delante

I feel like I don't belong in this time period. I'm 43, and I often wish I was in my teens and 20s in the 60s and 70s. I love to hear my parents stories.

From the first chord onwards i found myself, 10 years old, back on our living room carpet, studying the faces on single sleeve and listening to this song. Youthful innocence in a time of turmoil..

Iâm 28, this album was among my favourite when i started university, kinda wish I was born in the 50âs so I could have appreciated this music when it was popular in the 60âs and 70s
@emceeunderdogrising
My mother grew up next door to one of the members in Mill Valley. Was very close to them. She told me countless stories. But I've never sat down to listen to this whole album until 2024. I love how wide the stereo field is. Large room reverb gives it this commanding space. Almost as if the guitar is in the back of your ear. True Bay Area legends.
