Grant performed as a musician for a time in her early teens, but stopped due to a bout of stage fright, and did not return to performing until her early 20s when she played some shows with Heavy Blinkers. She then released an independent EP, Jenn Grant and Goodbye Twentieth Century, in 2005.
She collaborated on her debut album, Orchestra for the Moon, with such artists as Ron Sexsmith, Heavy Blinkers, Matt Mays and Jill Barber, and later toured Germany and Canada in support of the album, including as an opening act for The Weakerthans.
She later began recording her second album, Echoes, on a farm in rural Ontario in 2008. The album was produced by Jonathan Goldsmith and engineered by Walter Sobczak at The Studio at Puck's Farm. Her voice was also featured in the song "We Made a Pact" by Hey Rosetta on their 2008 album Into Your Lungs (and around in your heart and on through your blood). Echoes was released in 2009.
In 2010 and 2011, she collaborated with Buck 65 on several tracks, including "Paper Airplane", "Cold Steel Drum", "Days Go By" and a cover of Leonard Cohen/'s "Who By Fire", on his 20 Odd Years series of EPs. Late in 2010, she also released a four-song EP, Songs for Siigoun, which featured a cover of John Denver's "Annie's Song".
She released her third full-length album, Honeymoon Punch, in early 2011. Her fourth album, The Beautiful Wild, followed in 2012, and her fifth album, Compostela, was released on October 21, 2014.
She continues to paint, including designing some of her own album covers.

He brings me letters from now on
When he could find a soul
He catches words and sings the verse
As it goes
So long, my love
So long my love
So long my love
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking my heart back to where he found out
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking my heart back to where he found out
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking my heart back to where he found out
Taking it back, taking it back
Hello, my dear
It's not too late to get you out in here
Stay low
No one will care to keep it close
As it goes
So long, my love
So long my love
So long, my love
So long my love
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking my heart back to where he found out
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking my heart back to where he found out
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking my heart back to where he found out
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking my heart back to where he found out
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking my heart back to where he found out
Taking it back, taking it back
Taking my heart back to where he found out
Taking it back, taking it back
So long, my love
So long my love
So long, my love
So long my love
The lyrics of Jenn Grant's song "White Dove" depict a narrative of a relationship that has come to an end. The white dove symbolizes a messenger or mediator between the two individuals involved. In the first verse, it is mentioned that the dove brings letters, signifying communication and possibly the exchange of thoughts and feelings. However, the dove only finds a soul to connect with intermittently, capturing words and singing the verse as it goes. This could represent the fleeting nature of their connection, indicating that their relationship lacks stability.
The chorus repeats the phrase "So long, my love" multiple times, emphasizing the finality and ending of their love. It's a farewell to the love that existed between them, suggesting that they are now parting ways. The repetition serves to emphasize the emotional weight of this departure.
The second verse introduces a plea or invitation to someone dear to escape a certain situation. The singer encourages the person to stay low and shares that no one will care to keep them close. This could indicate an oppressive or harmful environment that they are trying to escape from together. The phrase "As it goes" implies that they are willing to face the unknown and take their chances on a new beginning.
The chorus repeats again, reaffirming the farewell to their love. The line "Taking it back, taking it back" is repeated throughout the song, expressing the desire to reclaim what was lost or broken. It suggests the intent to return to a previous state, specifically where the heart of the singer was initially discovered. This repetition signifies the significance of their shared history and the longing for a return to better times.
In summary, "White Dove" is a contemplative song about the end of a relationship. The lyrics speak of a connection that is fleeting and unstable, as represented by the white dove acting as a messenger. The chorus emphasizes the finality of their goodbye, while the verses hint at the possibility of starting anew, escaping from a difficult situation, and reclaiming what was lost.

I heard this on Information Morning today. It's sad that this song isn't more well known. Grant deserves her ECMA nomination more than anyone. I won't be happy until this breaks 1mil views.
