World Without End

Over your favorite field;
The wind on my face, the worry in yours,
The wheat and the sea and your elm.
I am dust, let me settle;
All reason unwound.
We are ravelled and shaken,
Other places, other times
I remembered my lines
But here I know it all by heart, by heart.
Take my hand, I'll walk with you
When we are old and beyond.
Time it was when even the sky
Stretched out like the map for a fight.
You are dust, you can settle;
All reason unwound.
We are flying, unfurled, nowhere to be found.
When the forest is silent
Lightening will strike.
We are tinder and we set the world on fire, on fire
After all is said
There is still no greater love.
World without end.
The song "World Without End" by Jennifer Kimball is a poignant and introspective ballad that examines the fleeting nature of life and the power of human connection. The lyrics describe the experience of standing in a wheat field with a loved one as they both observe a storm approaching. The wind is blowing on their faces, and there is a sense of worry in the air. The imagery of the wheat and elm tree in the field creates a sense of nostalgia and a connection to nature. The lyric "I am dust, let me settle" suggests a longing for stillness and peace, while "all reason unwound" captures the feeling of being caught up in a moment of passion or intensity that defies rational explanation.
The song then moves towards a more contemplative mood, with the singer reflecting on the transience of life and the importance of cherishing moments of connection with others. The lyric "Other places, other times/I remembered my lines/But here I know it all by heart, by heart" speaks to the idea that there are times in life where everything seems to come together perfectly and we feel a deep sense of belonging. The final verse of the song takes a more dramatic turn with the metaphor of a forest fire, suggesting that human relationships can be both fragile and incredibly powerful. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the lyric "After all is said/There is still no greater love/World without end" capturing the idea that love and connection can transcend even the most challenging moments in life.

All afternoon we watched that storm
We spent the afternoon observing the storm that was happening
Over your favorite field;
The storm happened over your beloved field
The wind on my face, the worry in yours,
I could feel the wind on my face and observed that you were worried
The wheat and the sea and your elm.
I saw the wheat field, the sea, and the elm tree that belonged to you
I am dust, let me settle;
I am nothing, so let me calm down and settle myself
All reason unwound.
I lost my ability to reason
We are ravelled and shaken,
We are confused and disturbed
Not touching the ground.
We feel lost, as if we are not on the ground
Other places, other times
At different places and times
I remembered my lines
I remembered what I needed to say
But here I know it all by heart, by heart.
But I have known this so well that I remember it by heart
Take my hand, I'll walk with you
Let me come with you and be with you through thick and thin
When we are old and beyond.
When we both grow old and leave this world
Time it was when even the sky
There was a time when even the sky
Stretched out like the map for a fight.
Stretched out like a map ready for a fight
You are dust, you can settle;
You are nothing and you have to calm yourself
All reason unwound.
You have lost your ability to reason
We are flying, unfurled, nowhere to be found.
We feel like we are flying, lost, and nowhere to be found
When the forest is silent
During the times when the forest is quiet
Lightening will strike.
Lightning will strike
We are tinder and we set the world on fire, on fire
We are the kindling and we set the world on fire
After all is said
After everything that we have said and done together
There is still no greater love.
There is still no better love than the one we share
World without end.
Our love continues even beyond this world
