My Eyes Adored You
Jersey Boys Lyrics

My eyes adored you
Though I never laid a hand on you,
My eyes adored you
Like a million miles away from me you couldn't see
How I adored you
So close, so close and yet so far away

Carried your books from school,
Playing make-believe you're married to me
You were fifth grade, I was sixth
When we came to be
Walking home every day over Barnegat Bridge and Bay,
Till we grew into the me and you
Who went our separate ways

My eyes adored you
Though I never laid a hand on you,
My eyes adored you
Like a million miles away from me you couldn't see
How I adored you
So close, so close and yet so far

Headed for city lights,
Climbed the ladder up to fortune and fame,
I worked my fingers to the bone,
Made myself a name.
Funny, I seem to find that, no matter how the years unwind,
Still I reminisce about the gir I miss
And the love I left behind

My eyes adored you
Though I never laid a hand on you,
My eyes adored you
Like a million miles away from me you couldn't see
How I adored you:
So close, so close and yet so far

All my life I will remember how warm and tender
We were way back then
Though I'm feeling sad regrets I know I won't ever forget
You, my childhood friend

My eyes adored you
Though I never laid a hand on you,
My eyes adored you
Like a million miles away from me you couldn't see

How I adored you
So close, so close and yet so far

Overall Meaning

The song "My Eyes Adored You" tells the story of unrequited childhood love. The singer sings about the love he felt for a girl he knew in fifth grade. He carried her books from school and imagined they were married. They had a routine of walking home together over a bridge and a bay, until they grew apart and went their separate ways. Although the girl never knew how much he adored her, the singer never forgot about her. He went on to climb the ladder of fame and fortune, but still, he reminisces about the love he left behind.

The song is about longing and nostalgia, with a bittersweet tone. The lyrics convey a sense of regret and melancholy, but also a fondness for the memory of the past. The singer seems to dwell on his childhood love and is haunted by what could have been. The line "so close and yet so far" underscores the theme of missed opportunities and the impossibility of recapturing the past.

Nataly Martinez doesn’t sound like auto tune. The guy is an accomplished broadway singer. Has probably sang the sound over 1000 times on stage

@Nataly Martinez no....vocal effects but no autotune there

When the movie was reaching its end, I got this feeling that you get when you don't want something to end, you just want it to last forever, and when Frankie said his favourite moment in their carreer was when it hadn't even started, it got me SO hard I went rushing to the store next to my house and bought the film.
