Open My Eyes
Jesse Manibusan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Open my eyes, Lord
Help me to see your face
Open my eyes, Lord
Help me to see

Open my ears, Lord
Help me to hear your voice
Open my ears, Lord
Help me to hear

Open my heart, Lord
Help me to love like you
Open my heart, Lord
Help me to love

And the first shall be last
And our eyes are opened
And we'll hear like never before
And we'll speak in new ways
And we'll see God's face in places we've never known

I live within you
Deep in your heart, O Love

I live within you
Rest now in me

Overall Meaning

Jesse Manibusan's song "Open My Eyes" is a beautiful prayer asking God to help us see, hear, and love like Him. The repetition of the phrases "Open my eyes, Lord," "Open my ears, Lord," and "Open my heart, Lord" serve as a reminder of the need for constant spiritual renewal and a desire for a deeper connection with God. The lyrics also suggest that by being open to God's guidance, we can experience a radical shift in our perspective, seeing and hearing things in new ways and encountering God in unexpected places.

The line "And the first shall be last" is a reference to Jesus' words in the Gospels, reminding us of the importance of humility and putting others first. The final line "I live within you, deep in your heart, O Love. I live within you, rest now in me" is a comforting reminder that God is always with us and we can find peace and rest in His presence.

Overall, "Open My Eyes" is a powerful prayer of surrender and a plea for God's guidance and transformation in our lives.

I first heard this song in 2008 while attending mass at Santa Teresita Church...Guam.
The song brought so much hope to my heart. I needed some reassurance at that moment that everything was going to be okay. God felt so much closer.
