Special to Me
Jessica Harper Lyrics

You've got no time left for simple feeling
I thought I knew you, but I didn't know you at all
Trapped inside your world of worry
You miss so much when you always hurry
Well slow down baby, you'll only get hurt if you fall
Well you told me one time that you'd be somebody, that you weren't working just to survive
Working so hard to be somebody special, not working just to survive
Well you're special to me babe, but what I don't see babe, is where you go once you arrive
Where we go once we arrive
Damn all the evil that takes possession
Until your pipe dreams become obsessions
They scare me baby, and we should have nothing to fear
I'm no child but I can't help wonder
It seems like some kind of spell you're under
You're listening baby, but somehow you don't really hear
Well you told me one time that you'd be somebody, that you weren't working just to survive
But you're working so hard that you don't even know you're alive
Working so hard to be somebody special, not working just to survive
Well you're special to me babe, but what I don't see babe, is where you go once you arrive
Where we go once we arrive
The lyrics to Jessica Harper's song "Special to Me" seem to be about a loved one who is caught up in the rat race of life, chasing success and material wealth without regard for the simple pleasures and emotions that make life meaningful. The singer seems to have a deep connection with this person but is worried about the toll that their frenzied pursuit of success is taking on them. The singer is frightened by the way their loved one's aspirations have become obsessions, leading them down a path fraught with danger and fear. Despite this fear, the singer wants to support and care for their loved one, but they are unsure where they fit into the other's life.
The first verse establishes the dire situation that the loved one is in - they are always busy, always hurrying, and always missing out on what is important. The second verse delves deeper into the loved one's psychology, as the singer reveals that they have dreams of becoming somebody, but their pursuit of success has become so all-consuming that they don't even know they're alive. The third verse is a warning to the loved one about the dangers of obsession, as the singer implores them to slow down and appreciate the simple joys of life.
Overall, "Special to Me" is a poignant and heartfelt plea for balance and perspective in a world that can be overwhelming and all-consuming.

The lyrics to this song relevant in today’s world than ever before. I saw this movie as a kid in the 90s. I am glad I did because it’s a good movie.

Love her little dance off stage.
@KathyDNJ
I saw her in an interview and she said she couldn't figure out how to leave the stage, so she just threw that little dance in, and it became a hit! She is a completely underrated actress, great voice and expressive acting!
