Country Girl
Jessie Buckley Lyrics

Never get too cool, you stop paying your dues, oh yeah
What can a poor boy do?
Better go back to your mama
Oh, she'll take care of you
Lost your wife, lost your son
Stay out drinking 'til the morning comes, oh yeah
You better go back to your mama
Oh, she'll take care of you
Country girl, take my hand
Lead me through this diseased land
I am tired, I am weak
I am worn
I have stole, I have sinned
Oh, my soul is unclean
Country girl, got to keep on keeping on
Crazy woman, mess your head
Wake up drunk and bleeding in some strange bed, oh yeah
What can a poor boy do?
You better go back to your mama
Oh, she'll take care of you
Country girl, take my hand
Lead me through this diseased land
I am tired, I am weak
I am worn
I have stole, I have sinned
Oh, my soul is unclean
Country girl, got to keep on keeping on
Gotta keep on keeping on
Gotta keep on keeping strong
Gotta keep on keeping on
When you got the right
You got the right city blues, woo
The thing I have to say before I go
Be careful with your seed
You will reap just what you sow, oh yeah
What can a poor boy do?
You better go back to your mama
Oh, she'll take care of you, oh
Country girl, take my hand
Lead me through this diseased land
I am tired, I am weak
I am worn
I have stole, I have sinned
Oh, my soul is unclean
Country girl, got to keep on keeping on, hey
Country girl, take my hand
Lead me through this diseased land
I am tired, I am weak
I am worn
I have stole, I have sinned
Oh, my soul is unclean
Country girl, got to keep on keeping on
Country girl, got to keep on keeping on
The song "Country Girl" by Jessie Buckley is an emotional ballad about the struggles of life and longing for comfort. The opening lines of the song suggest that success don't come without hard work and perseverance, and those who stray too far away from their roots might end up being lost. The idea is further emphasized in the chorus, where Buckley sings about a desire to be led through a 'diseased land' by a 'Country Girl.'
The verses of the song describe various struggles of life, from losing one's loved ones to alcoholism, and the ultimate message seems to be that one can always rely on the comfort of home and family. The line "better go back to your mama, oh, she'll take care of you" serves as a sort of refrain throughout the song, suggesting that there is always a safe haven to return to when things get rough.

Every minute Jessie is not singing is a crime against humanity. As great of an actor she is, she should definitely be cutting more albums like the Wild Rose soundtrack :)

I think wherever she goes in the World people will say “”Will you sing for us, please Jessie?”, and if they’re lucky enough that she does, then her phenomenal voice and charisma will take the roof off and bring joy to every soul.

Jessie seems like a very nice woman and truly a fantastic actress. Become a big fan of her because of Wild Rose that just blew me away how absolutely fantastic she was in this. And yes if I ever meet her i will probably ask her to sing any song from this movie's soundtrack

Liking her voice, I think this movie is what she needed for people to hear her voice. Talented actress also from what I’ve read. So much talent in our small country, makes me proud to be Irish, always.

What a blessing to see and hear such a woman. It's a shower of wellbeing and I haven't started with the fun factor yet. A woman who exudes joy and wit with every emotion, you become addicted to it.
