Following a minor stroke at age 18, she gained a Sony publishing contract and penned hits for the likes of Chris Brown, Dutch X Factor winner Lisa Lois, and Miley Cyrus (the American number two hit "Party in the USA"). After building up an established online presence, she signed to Universal Records and began working with the likes of hitmaker Dr. Luke (Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson), Atlanta rapper B.o.B, and R&B producer Labrinth on her debut album, Who You Are. In 2010, her first single, "Do It Like a Dude," originally written for Rihanna, reached number 25 in the U.K. charts and, following in the footsteps of Adele, Florence + the Machine, and Ellie Goulding, she was announced as the winner of the Critics Choice Award at the 2011 Brits. That same year, an appearance on Saturday Night Live coincided with her album being reissued in the U.S.
Following a tour that took in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, Malaysia, and her first show in North America, Jessie J became the first U.K. female solo artist to achieve six Top Ten singles from a single studio album. The success of the sixth single, "LaserLight," featuring David Guetta, was aided in no small part by her appearance as judge on the U.K. edition of The Voice. The hit show gave the singer a chance to display her talent for musical coaching, while building a rapport with fans both old and new on prime-time television. Also involved were Tom Jones and will.i.am, with whom Jessie J performed at Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee Concert in June 2012, before heading back to the studio to work on the follow-up to Who You Are.
After finishing her second and final season of coaching on The Voice in 2013, J returned with the singles "Wild" and "It's My Party," which preceded her second album, Alive, that September. With a planned U.S.-only version of Alive featuring collaborations with Pharrell Williams eventually put aside, J instead focused on recording new material for what would become her third studio album, Sweet Talker. Including the likes of Diplo, the-Dream, and the aforementioned Pharrell, the album also saw her join forces with De La Soul and 2 Chainz, while Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj both featured on the lead single, "Bang Bang," which debuted at number one in the U.K. and became a Top Ten hit in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Bulgaria. Sweet Talker arrived in October 2014, reaching the Top Ten in the U.S. and U.K. Taking a break from music, she joined the cast of judges on television singing competition The Voice Australia. She returned in 2017 with the singles "Real Deal" and "Queen," which later appeared on her fourth LP, R.O.S.E.
One More Try
Jessie J Lyrics

Like something knocked you off, off your wave?
You try to lift your head up
To show 'em what you're made of
I used to always feel too afraid
To take that extra step, make a change
But now I gotta stand up
Ooh, we all were born to break the rules
I know I got a lot of hill to climb
But on this starry night
I'm feeling new
Oh, oh, anything goes
This is the moment I've waited for
Won't hold it back, no, not anymore
I'm starting over with tears in my eyes
All that I'm asking is one more try
I've made mistakes and I've let you down
Been young and stupid, I see it now
I'm starting over with tears in my eyes
All that I'm asking is one more try
Sick of being told who I am
Been put into a box, no, not again
It's time for me to step out
And show 'em what I'm all about
'Cause ooh, we all were born to break the rules
I know I've got a lot of hill to climb
But on this starry night
I'm feeling new
Oh, oh anything goes
This is the moment I've waited for
Won't hold it back, no, not anymore
I'm starting over with tears in my eyes
All that I'm asking is one more try
I've made mistakes and I've let you down
Been young and stupid, I see it now
I'm starting over with tears in my eyes
All that I'm asking is one more try
One more try
Yeah, huh
I've made mistakes and I've let you down
Been young and stupid, I see it now
I'm starting over with tears in my eyes
All that I'm asking is one more try
Have you ever felt out of place
Have you ever experienced a sense of not belonging or fitting in
Like something knocked you off, off your wave?
Like something has disrupted your progress or momentum
You try to lift your head up
You attempt to regain your confidence
To show 'em what you're made of
To prove yourself and display your true capabilities
I used to always feel too afraid
I used to constantly experience fear and lack of confidence
To take that extra step, make a change
To take risks and initiate personal growth
But now I gotta stand up
But now I must assert myself
And show 'em what I'm made of
And demonstrate my true potential
Ooh, we all were born to break the rules
We all have the innate desire to defy conventional norms
I know I got a lot of hill to climb
I am aware that there are many challenges ahead
But on this starry night
But in this moment of hope and inspiration
I'm feeling new
I am experiencing a sense of renewal and transformation
Oh, oh, anything goes
Oh, anything is possible and allowed
This is the moment I've waited for
This is the pivotal moment that I have been anticipating
Won't hold it back, no, not anymore
I will no longer restrain or suppress myself
I'm starting over with tears in my eyes
I am beginning anew while feeling emotional and vulnerable
All that I'm asking is one more try
All I am requesting is another opportunity or chance
I've made mistakes and I've let you down
I have committed errors and disappointed you
Been young and stupid, I see it now
I have been naïve and reckless, and I realize it now
Sick of being told who I am
Tired of having my identity defined by others
Been put into a box, no, not again
Been limited or constrained, and I refuse to let it happen again
It's time for me to step out
It is time for me to break free from boundaries
And show 'em what I'm all about
And reveal my true nature and potential to others
'Cause ooh, we all were born to break the rules
Because, oh, we all have the inherent inclination to defy norms
This is the moment I've waited for
This is the pivotal moment that I have been anticipating
Won't hold it back, no, not anymore
I will no longer restrain or suppress myself
I'm starting over with tears in my eyes
I am beginning anew while feeling emotional and vulnerable
All that I'm asking is one more try
All I am requesting is another opportunity or chance
One more try
Another attempt or opportunity
I've made mistakes and I've let you down
I have committed errors and disappointed you
Been young and stupid, I see it now
I have been naïve and reckless, and I realize it now
I'm starting over with tears in my eyes
I am beginning anew while feeling emotional and vulnerable
All that I'm asking is one more try
All I am requesting is another opportunity or chance

Jessie’s vocal ability is UNTOUCHABLE!
@jackiejackie5464
Exactly. Shame on those who used her latest Instagram live video (she was practising "Listen") to undermine her talent. They should listen to this song.
@eturfrey
They have even removed her Soul train and Dear Mama performances from YT , but you can't shut down real talent.
@MrGuanche1985
The only singer that can match Jessie J is Adam Lambert
