What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
Why should you want to know?
Don't you mind about the future
Don't you try to think ahead
Save tomorrow for tomorrow
Think about today instead
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
When do we ride into Jerusalem?
When do we ride into Jerusalem?
When do we ride into Jerusalem?
When do we ride into Jerusalem?
When do we ride into Jerusalem?
When do we ride into Jerusalem?
When do we ride into Jerusalem?
Oh, yeah i could give you facts and figures
I could give you plans and forecasts
Even tell you where I'm going
Why should you want to know?
Why are you obsessed with fighting
Times and fates you can't defy?
If you knew the path we're riding
You'd understand it less than I
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
Let me try to cool down your face a bit
Let me try to cool down your face a bit
Let me try to cool down your face a bit
Let me try to cool down your face a bit
Let me try to cool down your face a bit
Let me try to cool down your face a bit
Let me try to cool down your face a bit
Let me try
Ooo
Ooo
Mary mmm, that is good
While you prattle through your supper
Where and when and who and how
She alone has tried to give me
What I need right here and now
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening
It seems to me a strange thing, mystifying
That a man like you can waste his
Time on women of her kind
Now I can understand that she amuses
But, to let her kiss you and stroke
Your hair is hardly in your line
It's not that I object to her profession
But she doesn't fit in well with
What you teach and say
It doesn't help us if you're inconsistent
They only need a small excuse
To put us all away
Who are you to criticise her? Who
Are you to despise her?
Leave her, leave her, let her be now
Leave her, leave her, she's with me now
If your slate is clean
Then you can throw stones
If your slate is not, then leave her alone
I'm amazed that men like you
Could be so shallow, thick and slow
There is not a man among you who know
Or cares if I come or go
No, you're wrong! You're very wrong!
No, you're wrong! You're very wrong!
No, you're wrong! You're very wrong!
No, you're wrong! You're very wrong!
How can you say that? How can you say that?
How can you say that? How can you say that?
Not one, not one of you!
The lyrics of "What's the Buzz / Strange Thing Mystifying" from Jesus Christ Superstar Original Cast highlight the curiosity and confusion surrounding the actions of Jesus and his followers. The repeated inquiry of "What's the buzz?" reflects people's eagerness to understand what is happening and the buzz surrounding Jesus. The opening lines suggest that the focus should be on the present moment rather than worrying about the future. It asks why it is necessary to know all the details and instead encourages living in the present.
The song then transitions to questioning the timing of Jesus riding into Jerusalem. It expresses a desire to know when this significant event will take place. Jesus responds with a sense of mystery, asserting that even if he were to explain, it would be difficult to comprehend. He challenges the obsession with fighting against destiny and emphasizes the limitations of human understanding.
Mary Magdalene enters the scene and offers comfort to Jesus, trying to calm him down. Her presence is seen as essential, as she alone understands and supports him in the moment. The song then takes a turn with the voice of Judas, who criticizes Jesus for associating with women like Mary. Judas insinuates that Jesus should not involve himself with people who don't align with his teachings and beliefs. However, Jesus defends Mary and questions the credibility of those who judge her, asserting their own shallowness and lack of understanding.
Overall, "What's the Buzz / Strange Thing Mystifying" explores the confusion, curiosity, and judgment surrounding Jesus' actions and the conflicts between different perceptions and beliefs.

Mary mmm, that is good
Mary, mm, that is commendable
While you prattle through your supper
While you chatter aimlessly over your meal
Where and when and who and how
Discussing the details of where, when, who, and how
She alone has tried to give me
She is the only one who has attempted to provide me
What I need right here and now
With what I require in this very moment
It seems to me a strange thing, mystifying
It appears to be a peculiar and perplexing matter
That a man like you can waste his
That an individual such as yourself can squander his
Time on women of her kind
Time on women of her profession
Now I can understand that she amuses
I can comprehend that she entertains
But, to let her kiss you and stroke
But, to permit her to embrace you and caress
Your hair is hardly in your line
Your actions are hardly aligned with your teachings
It's not that I object to her profession
It is not her occupation to which I object
But she doesn't fit in well with
However, she does not integrate effectively with
What you teach and say
What you instruct and express
It doesn't help us if you're inconsistent
It does not benefit us if you are inconsistent
They only need a small excuse
They simply require a minor reason
To put us all away
To condemn all of us
Who are you to criticise her? Who
By what authority do you criticize her? Who
Are you to despise her?
Are you to scorn her?
Leave her, leave her, let her be now
Abandon her, leave her be in the present moment
Leave her, leave her, she's with me now
Abandon her, she is currently with me
If your slate is clean
If your record is untarnished
Then you can throw stones
Then you are permitted to cast judgement
If your slate is not, then leave her alone
If your record is not, then refrain from interfering with her
I'm amazed that men like you
I find it astonishing that men such as yourself
Could be so shallow, thick and slow
Could possess such superficial, obtuse, and sluggish qualities
There is not a man among you who know
There is not a single man among you who is aware
Or cares if I come or go
Or genuinely concerns themselves with my presence or absence
No, you're wrong! You're very wrong!
No, you are mistaken! You are completely mistaken!
How can you say that? How can you say that?
In what way can you make such a statement? In what way can you make such a statement?
Not one, not one of you!
Not a single one of you!

JUDAS:It seems to me a strange thing, mystifying

But she doesn't fit in well with what you teach and say.
It doesn't help us if you're inconsistent.

Leave her, leave her, let her be now.
Leave her, leave her, she's with me now.
If your slate is clean, then you can throw stones.
If your slate is not, then leave her alone.I'm amazed that men like you can be so shallow, thick and slow

I love the smirk Judas gives Peter here.
He's known Jesus for just as long. His attitude to Jesus's response just screams "Yeah. Here we go again. Same platitude. Guess you're not going to listen to me. Again. Why do I bother?" Then he smirks at Peter as if to say "And there go. As if you're any better just watch. Yup. There it is."
I completly buy that this version of Judas has been there from the beginning and (at this stage in the show) is just trying to hold things together. Very much in the boat of "we've come to far to stop now" even though his drive has been replaced with frustration and anger
Strife
Judas: Jesus, I love you and I need you to listen to me. I care about you very much and I'm terrified that you're going to get yourself and all of us killed. Also I'm gay for you but like, it's fine. I'm cool.
Mary: Don't worry Jesus everything is fine actually. Let me sing to you and touch you.
Judas: *throws her down a flight of stairs*

This is absolutely a tale of a love triangle between a bisexual Jesus, and his two potential lovers competing for his attention.

and I also love the acting of some of the apostles in the background especially Simon he has an angry glare which is very likely directed at Judas for what happened to Mary and I also love the great depth this gives Simon while he may be rebellious and believe in fighting his heart is in the right place and he knows how to treat his friends and everyone that he cares about and Jesus asking Judas who are you to criticize her, who are you to judge her is another great moment not only does Glenn Carter perform Jesus masterfully including the above lyric it also does a great job of showing that Jesus was not perfect he was a flawed yet extraordinary and extraordinary brave, courageous compassionate heroic hero and Glenn Carter has perfect chemistry with Jerome Pradon as Judas and vice versa and Jerome 's Judas is perfect as well while his social skills may need some work in later scenes like superstar which Jerome performs absolutely masterfully we see the humanity in Judas and his sympathy for Jesus and that in his heart of hearts he has always cared about Jesus and been his friend!! Judas, Jesus and Simon are complex characters yet Jerome Pradon, Glenn Carter and Tony Vincent perform them masterfully and perfectly !!
Karpov Gambit

You know, I love the acting of some of the apostles in the back ground. 0:48, looked shocked, and saddened. He's clearly friends with Judas, Jesus, and Mary in this scene.
Next to you watch this, have a look at some of the background characters as they see and experience whats occurring around them.

I think it's interesting how Peter looks to be Jesus's biggest defenders only to go on to deny him later in the show.
