I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
Jim Boyd Lyrics

I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night.
She didn't see me creep
Down the stairs to have a peep;
She thought that I was tucked
Up in my bedroom fast asleep.
Then, I saw Mommy tickle Santa Claus
Underneath his beard so snowy white;
Oh, what a laugh it would have been
If Daddy had only seen
Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night.

I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night.
She didn't see me creep
Down the stairs to have a peep;
She thought that I was tucked
Up in my bedroom fast asleep.
Then, I saw Mommy tickle Santa Claus
Underneath his beard so snowy white;
Oh, what a laugh it would have been

If Daddy had only seen
Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night.

Overall Meaning

The song “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” is a classic Christmas song that has become a favorite for many people around the world. The song was written by Tommie Connor in 1952 and was first recorded by Jimmy Boyd, a 13-year-old singer. The song tells the story of a young child who catches his/her mother kissing Santa Claus under the mistletoe on Christmas Eve. The child sneaks down the stairs to watch the romantic moment, and the child’s mother winks at the child but doesn’t realize he/she is witnessing the affair.

The lyrics to “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” have been interpreted in different ways over the years. Some people believe that the song is just a fun, innocent song that represents the joy and excitement of Christmas. Others have interpreted the lyrics to mean that the mother was having an affair with Santa Claus, which is a scandalous interpretation. However, many people feel that the song is just a lighthearted way of portraying the magic of Christmas and the curiosity of children.

One fascinating aspect of the song is that it was almost immediately controversial when it was first released. Some religious groups felt that the song was making light of the religious significance of Christmas, while other groups felt that the song was promoting adultery. However, despite the controversy, the song has remained a popular Christmas classic and has been covered by hundreds of artists over the years.

Jimmy Boyd and I we bunk mates at basic training at Lackland AFB in 1961 - 62. He had his T-bird there. Never saw him again.  Great memories.

@JanH298

Apparently he passed away in 2009 (from cancer), 70 years old. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Boyd

I was a little girl when this came out and developed the biggest little girl crush on Jimmy. It was my first real crush and the first time I was aware that boys and girls attraction existed. I was 7 years old then.... I actually didn't know that I had a crush on him until I had a dream about him. I was sitting on a bench and he was singing to me, and I felt all tingly inside. I'm now 69 years old but can still remember that first dream that awakened my attraction to boys.

I heard this song at 4 years old, in 1952. Six years ago, while cleaning out my parents' house, I gave an ancient, beat up 45 record to the Goodwill along with my other 300 old 45's.

@rollandemarie74

I STILL HAVE THE 78 RECORD OF HIM ,,YES ,,I SURE LOVE THIS ONE ,,
