Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Brickman enrolled in the Cleveland Institute of Music taking courses in composition and performance, while taking business classes at Case Western Reserve University. His music career started when he was nineteen, when Jim Henson hired him to write tunes for Sesame Street. He was also hired to write commercial jingles while in college.
Brickman writes a wide variety of music. Besides his piano compositions and love songs, he has also created arrangements of other songs. Several of his albums feature arrangements of children's music; he has produced two Christmas-themed albums The Gift (1997) and Peace (2003); and his 2005 album Grace concentrates on arrangements of well-known Christian music.
Jim Brickman has also starred in the now-on-DVD PBS specials "My Romance: An Evening with Jim Brickman", "Love Songs & Lullabies" and "The Disney Songbook." In 2006, he sponsored his first Jim Brickman Valentine's Day Cruise with Carnival Cruise Lines which has become an annual event.

What if I never found you
I'd never have this feeling in my heart
How did this come to be
I don't know how you found me
But from the moment I saw you
Deep inside my heart I knew
Baby your my destiny
You and I were meant to be
With all my heart and soul
I give my love to have and hold
And as far as I can see
You were always meant to be my destiny
I wanted some one like you
Someone that I could hold on to
And give my love until the end of time
But forever was just a word, just a word
Something I'd only heard about
But now your always there for me
When you say forever I'll believe
Baby your my destiny
You and I were meant to be
With all my heart and soul
I give my love to have and hold
And as far as I can see
You were always meant to be my destiny
Maybe all we need is just a little faith
Cause baby I believe that love will find a way
Baby your my destiny
You and I were meant to be
With all my heart and soul
I give my love to have and hold
And as far as I can see
From now until eternity
You were always meant to be
My destiny
Your my destiny
In the song "Destiny" by Jim Brickman, the singer describes the feeling of finally finding the person meant for him. The first verse talks about a feeling in his heart that he would never have if he hadn't found this person. The second verse shows that the singer doesn't know how this person came into his life, but he knew deep inside his heart that they were meant to be together. The chorus repeats that the person the singer found is his destiny and they were meant to be together.
The singer then explains that he had always wanted someone like this person, someone he could hold onto and give his love to forever. But he had never found someone who believed in forever until he found this person. The third verse suggests that all they need to make their relationship work is a little faith, and the singer believes that love will find a way. The chorus is repeated again, but this time with the added phrase of "From now until eternity" to emphasize how strong the relationship is.
