Prior to working with Neil Young and becoming a key contributor to the late 60's sound of Buffalo Springfield, Messina had a popular mid-60's Southern California surf-rock combo called Jim Messina & his Jesters who released an album on Audio Fidelity label.
Later on, he was co-founder along with ex-Buffalo Springfield guitarist Richie Furay of the country-rock band Poco. After a stint in Poco that lasted from from 1968-1970, he formed Loggins & Messina who had a long nine album run beginning in 1970 that was essentially exhausted by 1976. From 1979 to 1983 he released a trio of solo albums, Oasis (1979), Messina (1981), and One More Mile (1983).
Messina has continued since the 1980's to occasionally reunite with old partners like Richie Furay and Kenny Loggins for concerts that revisit past success, hosts "The Songwriters' Performance Workshop" wherein he leads 7-day intensive workshops for songwriters and singers. His 1996 solo release Watching The River Run (Revisited) featured the song Mexican Minutes later re-cut by hot country act Brooks & Dunn.
He currently has a 2009 release out entitled Mojito Moon available as a download at Amazon link: http://j.mp/b6Uf3m

NOBODY BUT YOU
Jim Messina Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Open up your eyes to the truth
You know it's a magic thing
A man needs a woman like you
You bring all the morning light
Like a sun through the window pane
You clear up the cloudy skies
You're refreshing as a morning rain
[Chorus:]
And I don't want nobody
I don't want nobody but you
And if I need anybody, Darling
You're the one that I would choose
I stumbled down Canyon Road
Just looking for the right way to love you
Every time I felt your doubt
And I heard the word from above
Hold on, she's coming soon
Woman who would change your whole life
And now that I have my choice
Well, I'm chosing you to be my wife
[Chorus]
Well I don't want nobody, nobody but you
And if I need anybody, Darling
You're the one that I would do
Nobody
I don't want nobody but you
And if I need anybody, Darling
You're the one that I would choose
The song "Nobody But You" by Jim Messina is a beautiful love song that describes the feeling of finding the one true love. The lyrics talk about waiting for the right person to come along and feeling grateful for finally finding that special someone. The song starts with the lines "Someday is finally come, Open up your eyes to the truth", signifying that the wait for true love is over and it's time to recognize it. The singer then acknowledges that a man needs a woman like the one he has found and she brings light to his life in the form of mornings, clearing out the cloudy skies of his life.
In the chorus, the singer talks about not wanting anyone else but his beloved, stating that if he ever needed anyone else it would only be her. The deep love and devotion to the person is evident in every word of the song, even in the lines "I stumbled down Canyon Road, just looking for the right way to love you". He acknowledges his mistakes, and the words of wisdom that he heard in his search of finding true love. In the end, he chooses his beloved to be his wife and declares that he doesn't want anybody else but her.
Overall, the song is about deep and unconditional love, and that when you finally find the person who truly completes you, you don't want anyone else in your life.
