As Is
Jimi Jamison Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Should I reveal exactly how I feel?
Should I confess I love you?
Should I recite beneath the pale moonlight?
And swear by the stars above you?

Could I repeat the sweetest story told?
Could I entreat, would it be too bold?
Should I reveal 'xactly how I feel?
Should I confess I love you?

Could I repeat that sweetest story told?
Could I entreat, would it be too bold?

Should I reveal 'xactly how I feel?
Should I confess I love you?

And swear by stars above you?
Should I confess I love you?

I'm out of time, I'm out of place
And looking up seems I've fallen from grace

Ragged and torn these clothes I wear
I've my paid price fallen out of repair
But look beyond my doubt and fear
You'll find a treasure beneath the tears
Inside this timeless heart
betrays my trembling hand,
won't someone take
Who I am

As is, Take me as is, you could restore me
Shine down your glory from under the dust
And the rust, won't you take me?, as is

As childhood fades for dreams to thrive
There must be love to keep the child alive
When love goes wrong or can't be found
The tug of life forever pulling us down
That's been my tale, that's been my plight
I'm walking wounded can't see the light
I'm searching high and low to find the missing part,
won't someone take this broken heart

As is, take me as is, you could restore me
Shine down your glory from under the dust
And the rust, won't you take me?, as is

This weight upon my shoulders, these blisters on my heels ,
between the lines, upon of my face, the story can be revealed
but I've met the man who casts the giant shadow
now I stand before the kingdom that is his

As is, hooo take me as is, you could restore me
Shine down your glory from under the dust
And the rust, won't you take me?, as is
Take me as is

I cry every time I listen to this song. I heard in an interview with Jim Peterik that he and Jimi sat and had many heart-to-heart talks before Jim started writing songs for Jimi for this album. After listening to this song I think Jimi was at a spot in his life (like many of us at his age) where we start to review our life and ponder eternity. I have listened to several interviews where Jimi mentioned his faith and the fact that the Baywatch song was actually a christian song. He said just " listen to the words, they are not about a lifeguard". Between the lines of this song I feel that he knows he has struggled with faults and drug problems but still knows that God loves him and will "take him as is". It gives me comfort because I believe that Jimi knew God and his son Jesus and is in their presence.

@Sami Missy He was a Beautiful Light in my Life once and he continues to be this from Heaven everyday. I know he’s in Beautiful Peace because he was a Kind Soul with a Heart of Gold ♥️✨💔Thank you for your comment.

@lehcaraz1 you & I both! I do a lot of charitable acts & donations in his name! I think this is the best way to honor his memory indeed! & prayer for his soul & his family's well-being of course! Good for you, you sound like a very decent human being!

@Sami Missy Thank you, I would also encourage jimis fans to donate regularly to St Jude Childrens Hospital in his memory. He supported many charities but that one was nearest and dearest to his heart. I make sure to put a note with my donation that it is being done in his memory.

lehcaraz1, I think this might well be the best & most beautiful comment I have ever read on anything pertaining to Jimi ever, and I believe I have read them all! Wonderfully shared, bravo!
He had an exquisitely beautiful soul, his heart was so full of what was good and important. The rest did not matter in the least as we are ALL flawed and that's ok, it's how we learn.
He & his family & closest friends are in my prayers every single night as I know if somebody is one who will be a worthwhile angel in God's kingdom it would be our Jimi.
Life is a test & he gave so much of himself to the benefit & betterment of others & what counts in the end is what is inside.
Even though he has been gone nearly 7 years now he inspires me every day to want to be better, kinder, more compassionate, more giving, more decent & live my life closer to what the Good Lord intended. That's a remarkable gift to give to somebody just by being himself.
He surely was & still remains an incomparably secial person 'as is'!
