Shame
Jimmy Eat World Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm through hiding tonight
Take from the rest, your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
No shame it might take you all night
But you'll love me with time
Take from the rest, your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
Take from the rest, your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
No shame is it dark yet outside?
I'm through hiding tonight
Take from the rest your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
No shame take from the rest your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
No shame
The song "Shame" by Jimmy Eat World appears to be about a person who is feeling a sense of guilt or regret for something they have done in the past. The repetition of the line "sleep with my curse and feel no shame" implies that the person is trying to find a way to absolve themselves of their guilt and move forward with their life. They seem to be looking for redemption or forgiveness, hence the repetition of lines such as "take from the rest, your debt erased."
The line "It might take you all night, but you'll love me with time" could be interpreted as the person trying to gain forgiveness or redemption from someone else, perhaps a loved one or partner. They are acknowledging that it may take time, but if the other person is patient and understanding, they will eventually be able to move past their mistake.
Overall, the song seems to be about the struggle to let go of past mistakes and find a way to move on without shame or regret.
