Don't you tell me that you proud of me
Don't bring up my past I'm exactly where I wanna be
Now I gotta blast and don't you even try to follow me
Cause I'm going up to fast and these niggas know they can't compete
And I'll put your ass on blast if you ever try to lie to me
Don't you tell me that you proud of me
(Yeah yeah)
Cause I'm up now
Where was the love when I needed it?
She know that I'm that Nigga, swear she love it when I'm beating it
I know you saw my message, it's too late I just deleted it
I just stay away when I feel I'm on some fiending shit
Three AM writing in my notes while you Niggas sleep
Say that you gon ride but when it go down you get up and leave
I don't want no fake love keep that shit away from me
(I don't want no fake love keep that shit away from me)
Don't you tell me that you proud of me (Proud of me)
Don't you tell me that you proud of me
Don't you tell me that you proud of me (Proud of me)
Don't you tell me that you proud of me
Don't you tell me that you proud of me (Proud of me)
Don't you tell me that you proud of me
Don't you tell me that you proud of me (Proud of me)
(Don't you tell me that you proud of me)
Don't you tell me that you proud of me
Don't bring up my past I'm exactly where I wanna be
Now I gotta blast and don't you even try to follow me
Cause I'm going up to fast and these niggas know they can't compete
And I'll put your ass on blast if you ever try to lie to me
Don't you tell me that you proud of me
Don't you tell me that you love me, when you put someone above me
I'm just grinding getting money, gotta get cause I'm hungry
Tried to kick me when I'm down like to you it was just fuck me
I can't wait to see you frown when I go and win that Grammy
I was only five years old when I lost my granny
Ain't nobody was a around I ain't have no one to help me
I'ma work and I'ma win don't you tell me that I'm lucky
And these diamonds get too cold I'ma have some noses runny (yeah yeah)
Don't you tell me that you proud of me (Proud of me)
Don't you tell me that you proud of me
Don't you tell me that you proud of me (Proud of me)
Don't you tell me that you proud of me
Don't you tell me that you proud of me (Proud of me)
Don't you tell me that you proud of me

Don't you tell me that you proud of me (Proud of me)
(Don't you tell me that you proud of me)

Overall Meaning

In JoJo's song "Proud," the lyrics convey a deep sense of self-assurance and defiance against those who may have doubted or betrayed the singer in the past. The repeated refrain of "Don't you tell me that you proud of me" reflects a skepticism towards insincere praise or support. The singer is adamant about not wanting fake love or empty compliments, especially from those who were not there for them when they needed it most.

The lyrics also touch on a feeling of isolation and perseverance in the face of adversity. The mention of being alone at a young age and having to rely solely on their own determination to succeed highlights a sense of self-reliance and resilience. Despite the challenges they have faced, the singer remains focused on their goals and refuses to be swayed by false promises or manipulative behavior.

There is a clear sense of ambition and determination in the lyrics as the singer talks about grinding and hustling to achieve their dreams. The references to winning a Grammy and earning money reflect a desire for recognition and financial stability. The mention of past struggles and losses serves as a reminder of where they come from and the strength it took to get to where they are now.

Overall, "Proud" is a powerful anthem of empowerment and self-worth. It addresses themes of resilience, perseverance, and the importance of staying true to oneself in the face of adversity. The lyrics capture a sense of defiance and determination to succeed on one's own terms, without needing validation or approval from others.

JoJo it's so beautiful too see how empowering your mom is, your biggest supporter from day 1 of your life.

And we are the fans supporting you from day 1 of your career, no matter which song, which mixtape or album you brought or bring out.

Your songs are always art and you bring out all the emotions everyone can relate to and you inspire each and everyone of us to hold on to our dreams no matter what age we are and no matter what life made us go through. And I love on what spiritual path you are with meditation and all the positive affirmations your mom gives you each day.

You inspire me everyday to sing out loud and be proud of me, my soul, my body, my mind and the God given gift.

You rock, woman.

All the lyrics, all your runs, your workouts, your independent being, everything about you inspires me to be the best version of myself.

I'm so glad to had the chance to meet you and I'm so looking forward to your concert on the 14th of September this year. The third concert of you I will be at and I'm basically counting the days.

Thank you for being you, we love you!❤️

I think this is JoJo telling herself she has done more than enough for her to be proud of herself instead of letting her past bother her. We all know what JoJo went through and to see her back to music and realizing her worth make me so happy, she’s a real inspiration and I applaud her for that.

@TehKaiser

In some lines, she is talking to her mom. Some lyrics are introspection on the part if JoJo.
