1) Jockstrap is a British electronic music duo based in London. The duo's instigators Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye launched their 2018 debut mini-album Love is the Key to the City, and subsequently its remix version Lost My Key In The Club, in 2019. Ellery starred in Cornish film BAIT (which went on to win a BIFA award and won Outstanding Debut at the BAFTAs) and - alongside Cornish-Welsh artist Gwenno - performed the film’s score live on 17 Jan at the BFI. She is also the violinist for popular post-rock band Black Country, New Road. Skye developed his own solo project and remixed the album from Arizona’s Injury Reserve (who Jockstrap toured with in the U.K.) in its entirety. Ellery has also collaborated with Underworld on their ongoing experimental project, DRIFT. Both Ellery and Skye wrote and performed on Dean Blunt's 2018 Soul On Fire mixtape (also featuring A$AP Rocky & Mica Levi) Jockstrap were also asked to collaborate and perform at Africa Express’ sold-out one-off show in a circus tent in Walthamstow.

Acid
Jockstrap Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I′ll smash it if you need someone to blame
Pull, pull, pull from my neck and my eyes
If it means you don't hurt anymore
Just twice we′ve spoken since
But what have I to give you - what am I to you?
Gas and blood, and blood, and blood
And you know who you hate
I sent you my heart
Since then we've spoken twice
But what if you were to kill me off or worse, yourself?
Stop and wound him; do what you have to do to him
But not me and you, cause it's me and you
I sent you my heart
Love forever -ever
Frankly never broken
Together -ether
The above lyrics are from the song "Acid" by Jockstrap. The song opens with a provocative line "Smash a pretty vase of acid, and I'll smash it if you need someone to blame." The following line suggests that the lyrics are a conversation between two people. The lyrics evoke a sense of a toxic relationship, where both individuals are hurting each other. The phrase 'Pull, pull, pull from my neck and my eyes' seems like a metaphor for someone tugging at another's emotions. This line could also be viewed as a plea to release the singer from the other's grasp.
The lyric 'Gas and blood, and blood, and blood, it is love you are full of, and you know who you hate' is enigmatic but suggests that the person is filled with a desire for love, yet is still consumed with hate. The line 'I sent you my heart' is repeated twice, and it is unclear whether it refers to a physical heart or an emotional one. The refrain 'Love forever-ever, frankly never broken, together-ether' is repeated throughout the song, suggesting the idea of an inseparable bond between the two individuals, despite the tumultuous nature of their relationship.
The song could be viewed as a commentary on the complexities of love and the inability to let go of toxic individuals. The lyrics serve to complicate a story of what appears to be a standard love song. The enigmatic lyrics and repetition of phrases serve to build a sense of unease and create a surreal atmosphere.
