Twilight
Jody K. Jenkins Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
cnd the air is poised
Birds circle in slow motion in a
Cacophony of calls
cnd I sit here listening
For the truth in your voice
Like some old sage
cnd my gaze is diffuse
Silhouettes and shadows flit and murmur
Blue upon blue
cnd I keep searching
For the promise of form
Holding the elusive in a palm
It's twilight
I am imbued
Hanging like a droplet in suspension
In a rarefied sphere
cnd I Surrender
To the knowing unknown
Subliminal sublime peripheral
Peripheral
It's twilight.
In Jody K. Jenkins's song "Twilight," the lyrics evoke a serene and introspective atmosphere as the singer contemplates during the transition between day and night. The mention of twilight sets the tone of the song, a time of day that is often associated with reflection and transition. The line "Birds circle in slow motion in a cacophony of calls" paints a vivid picture of the natural world around the singer, with the chaos of bird calls contrasting with the stillness of the twilight hour. The singer's search for truth in the voice of another person, described as listening "like some old sage," suggests a longing for wisdom and clarity in a world that may seem confusing or uncertain.
As the song progresses, the focus shifts to the singer's internal thoughts and feelings during twilight. The line "my gaze is diffuse, silhouettes and shadows flit and murmur, blue upon blue" conjures a dream-like imagery of shapes and colors blending together in the fading light. The singer continues to search for meaning and form in this shifting twilight landscape, perhaps symbolizing a deeper search for understanding or purpose in their own life. The mention of holding the elusive in a palm hints at the ephemeral nature of truth or insight, something that can slip away just as quickly as it is grasped.
In the next stanza, the singer describes feeling "imbued" and hanging like a droplet in suspension, creating a sense of weightlessness and detachment from the physical world. The mention of a "rarefied sphere" suggests a sense of elevation or transcendence, as the singer surrenders to the unknown and embraces the mysterious forces at play in the twilight hour. The repeated use of "subliminal sublime peripheral" adds a poetic rhythm to the lyrics, emphasizing the singer's immersion in this liminal space between day and night. The overall mood is one of surrender and acceptance, allowing oneself to be carried away by the beauty and uncertainty of twilight.
The final repetition of "It's twilight" serves as a contemplative refrain, grounding the listener in the present moment and reinforcing the transformative power of this transitional time. The merging of the external world with the singer's inner thoughts and emotions creates a sense of profound connection to the universe at large. The song ends on a note of acceptance and embrace of the unknown, inviting the listener to join the singer in their twilight reverie and find solace in the beauty and mystery of the world around them.
