Watley got her start as a dancer on the television dance show Soul Train, which led to her being tapped for a spot in Shalamar. Her first solo album, Jody Watley, yielded #2 hit Looking for a New Love, which was followed by two more top 10 singles — Don’t You Want Me (#6) and Some Kind of Lover (#10). Two other singles from the album charted — Still a Thrill (#56) and Most of All (#60). The success propelled her to a Best New Artist Grammy win for 1987. Subsequent album Larger Than Life produced another three top 10 singles: Real Love (#2), Everything (#4) and Friends (#9). Her only other U.S. top 40 appearances came in 1992 with I’m the One You Need (#19) and as one of several featured artists on Babyface’s This is for the Lover in You (#6) in 1996. She is ranked #21 on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Top Dance Club Artists.

Andre Cymone didn’t contribute to this song. I am looking at the album credits right now. Bernard Edwards and his team of musicians including Tony Thompson on drums do this song.

And Bernard Edwards produced 3 tracks from Jody Watley’s debut album. Andre used his own instrumentation on his songs that he produced. And Bernard Edwards used his own musicians on the tracks that he produced. Including Tony Thompson on drums and of course Bernard on Bass. You said Andre Cymone contributed to the beat on the songs that Bernard Edwards produced. He didn’t I have the original album in my hand right now. Each producer used there own musicians. Andre Cymone didn’t contribute to the Bernard Edwards produced song Don’t you want me.Bernard Edwards always used his own musicians when he produced and album. Or if he produced a song or songs on an album.

Saw the T.V. One Unsung episode (Shalamar) and felt that a lot was missing Her unfiltered interview about what was not said concerning Shalamar and the history of the group would leave me bitter as well Even the original lead singer (Gerald Brown)said as much Not all was as it seemed

@Kimothy Storey Damn, it sucks to hear all these stories. But that Shalamar period of her life (the early 1980s especially) hurt her so much that she distanced herself from Hollywood for a while and went to Europe. She didn't even come back to America until 1986, and that was because she was ready to come back to the states by then and because she was shopping her debut album to certain record companies.
