There Will Never Be Another You
Joe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There will be many other nights like this
And I'll be standing here with someone new
There will be other songs to sing, another fall, another spring
But there will never be another you

There will be other lips that I may kiss
But they won't thrill me like yours used to do
Yes, I may dream a million dreams, but how can they come true
If there will never ever be another you?

There will be other lips that I may kiss
But they won't thrill me like yours used to do

Yes, I may dream a million dreams, but how can they come true
If there will never ever be another you?

Overall Meaning

Joe Williams’s song “There Will Never Be Another You” is about a lover's lament over the end of a relationship. The song acknowledges that there will be many other experiences that can parallel and even exceed what the two had shared, but ultimately, there will never be another person like their former lover. The first verse of the song sets the scene for this idea: there will be other nights and songs, but no other person will match up to the one that is gone. The singer is resigned to this fact, standing with someone new but still feeling the gap that their old lover has left in their life.

The second verse takes a more somber tone, with the singer acknowledging that while they may find other lips to kiss, they will never compare to the ones they’ve lost. They may dream of new and exciting things, but none of those dreams will come true with the same satisfaction as they would have had with their lost lover. The repeated refrain highlights the central theme of the song: the recognition that the person they loved was unique, and that no one else will ever replicate the same bond that they had shared.

Overall, “There Will Never Be Another You” speaks to the universal experience of loss and the bittersweet longing for what once was. The song underscores how the ghosts of the people we’ve loved continue to haunt us, no matter how hard we try to move on.

Why Joe Pass is so trascendental? Simple, he did his homework and in some way took seriously the electric guitar, you can hear in his playing a lot of influences but he learned how to take these elements and make them part of his phrasing, and THAT Folks is something that you don't see everyday, and you can confirm this with the pass of the year, he become more mature with his sound, Joe Pass is for me the best jazz guitar players of all the time.

@ChannelMaster720

Joe Pass was a genius at playing the guitar as though he was playing TWO instruments. I loved his quiet way when interviewed (humble) and yet he laughed easily. MISS HIM! SYLVIA _FL 9/10/19
