Reconsider Baby
Joe Bonamassa Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So long, oh how I hate to see you go
And the way that I will miss you
I guess you will never know
We've been together so long, to have to separate this way
We've been together so long, to have to separate this way
I'm gonna let you go ahead on baby
You said you once had loved me,
but now I guess you have changed your mind
You said you once had loved me,
but now I guess you have changed your mind
Why don't you reconsider baby
Give yourself just a little more time
In Joe Bonamassa's song Reconsider Baby, the singer begins by expressing their sadness at seeing their lover leave. The repetition of "oh how I hate to see you go" emphasizes the singer's deep emotional attachment to their partner, and the following line "and the way that I will miss you, I guess you will never know" adds another layer of sadness, suggesting that the singer feels their love is not reciprocated. The second verse reveals that the couple has been together for a long time, further adding to the sense of loss and pain the singer experiences from being separated. The line "pray that you'll come back home someday" highlights the singer's hope that the relationship can be rekindled despite the separation.
The song's bridge reveals that the partner once claimed to have loved the singer, but has now changed their mind. The singer's plea for their lover to "reconsider" and give themselves more time suggests that they believe the relationship can still work if given enough chance. There is a sense of desperation in the lyrics, as the singer is willing to wait and hope for the return of their lover despite the pain of the separation. Overall, the song is a poignant expression of the complexities of love and heartbreak.

Up to 5 minutes it's superb, then the gloves come off, the emotions get laid bare and it just howls! Keyboards, vocals and guitar all spot on and those final staccato drum beats sound like he's trying to go through the skins. Just excellent.

I think it's time to stop saying Bonamassa sounds like this or that legend. He is truly a legendary player himself with his own distinct sound and style. Definitely one of the best players in this, or any, age.

OMG.. I have heard many versions of this song, and like each one for different reasons -and- the anguish of JB's version just blows the top of my head off. He *feels* this song, down deep, his guitar speaks it, and his voice speaks it. How it moves me.. a personal preference but I think this is the deepest cover yet. (Don't flame me, youtubers, it's a personal preference!).
